The story about the Queen is really very touching. The British will be on the right side of this one, I am confident.

>>>Yet my pastor's principal concern was the ugliness of Americans.<<<
Mr. Steyn, the Lord works in mysterious ways. I believe He is telling you to find another Church.

Feel free to call Lehigh University and let them know what you think. That this university just landed itself on the list of party schools says a lot about it's dedication to education. Lehigh 610-758-3000

Yes, the queen and the British get it, the scene at The palace where they played OUR national anthem said more then anything a politicain could have said!!
The other that really struck me, was the woman in London, an American flag is hanging at half mast in a square somewhere, this woman is clutching and hugging the flag and is crying. It not only struck me, it knocked me down.
I am not a man who cries easily, I NEVER cry, but last week, I cried more then I ever have in my entire life. The terrible destruction and loss of life, the incredible coming together of this country, and the upwelling of good wishes from our allies. It was almost more then even I could bare, but the woman in London, hugging and holding that flag and just crying, REALLY, REALLY struck me.

Her Majesty gets it. Why yes, yes she does.
I only wish more here at FR "got it".
We are NOT the bad guys.

WOW!!>>
Thanks for posting this...it rings, unfortunately, too true as a goodly proportion of Americans still "don't get it".
Americans spend entirely too much time beating themselves up over relatively trivial things and take any criticism of their actions or inactions right on the jaw, while hardly ever taking any significant time to consider the positive impact our nation has had on the world.
No nation gets it "right" 100% of the time. Except for the past 8 years (of WJC), it was always hard to credibly impugn our motives in matters of world affairs. We believe in freedom and representative government, laws and individual rights. It pains me to say that I wonder if a preponderance of Americans today would voluntarily state that these beliefs are superior to those held by any other nation (excepting of course like-minded nations England, Australia among others).
When Americans refuse to recognize their moral and ideological superiority, and give credence to other inferior governmental systems, we will cease to be great...

You are a real man. A man who would not cry in the face of such human carnage is a beast, a hulk of protoplasm. We all need a good national cry, and then Geronimo.

Thank you very much. I have admired your Queen since I was in England in World War II. Along with her Parents, she not only did not flee to safety somewhere, but she served in the uniform of her country and was subject to all of the dangers that her fellow contrymen endured. A great Lady indeed. God Save Your Queen.

The first time I broke into tears was waking early and seeing the service at St. Paul's. When they started singing "The Star Spangled Banner," and the QUEEN was singing it, I totally lost it.
God bless our British friends, and God save the Queen!

OOOPS: On my comment above I forgot to address it to the author of the column and also forgot to thank pokey for posting it. Ah, well, no harm done I guess.

My father went to school to learn to fly A-20's. He flunked out and built airfields instead.

And when you consider the words to the song..."and the rockets red glare, the bombs bursting in air, gave proof to the night, that our flag was still there"....to have her sing those words (and I didn't see her reading any cheat sheets either!) was a sight to behold.

I sank into tears when I saw the Queen's eyes filling up on the TV this moved me greatly and I could not keep it in. The last time something like this happened was when Princess Di was killed, as a Brit seeing the Queen singing the star spangled banner was fantastic, but move to tears is something else. Also seeing old Bill Clinton thanking greatly the BBC and us for our support was a nice touch.
