That was the Fish. Better known as http://babelfish.altavista.com/

Translates paragraphs, or entire web pages. Imperfectly, but good enough to use. . .

I hope every hacker in the United States gets into their network and helps expose them.

If there are any hackers serving time right now, the justice department ought to trade off time left for service to our country. These guys do their thing for the thrill and challenge and should use their talents for something productive.

I heard a new term today: political hacktivism!

I gather the term existed prior to this, but apparantly many skilled and pattriotic hackers have begun to turn their attention to terrorist organizations to cause them agita! Bwah hah hah!

My only concern is that they may inadvertently complicate surveillance and operational activities of our military & intelligence community.

Once the list of names is known, maybe a volunteer corps of security paparrazi could be formed to follow these potential terrorists wherever they go and thereby render them totally ineffective. No other terrorists would wish to be seen with a terrorist and his corps paparazzi.

If some of these hackers would get it going, they could wipe out what they want and never look back.

Oh yeah! There are a mess of them out there that have been ready to do that for years. They may be a touch indiscriminate as to whose hard-drives they wipe.

I'm sure the hackers wanted the media glory, but it seems to me you are both right: it would have been more prudent to hand this list over to the proper authorities. Not only will they head for the hills, but they will change their names and Net addresses immediately.

"I bet the hacker is under 20 years of age, these kids are so sharp it's frightening."

Ditto. I've learned more about computers from my 14 year-old in the past 12 months than I learned myself over the previous 15 years.

As an MIS Manager and can truely say for the first time....THANK GOD FOR HACKERS

And I'd never say "Thank God for cell phones", before this tragic event.

What I meant was for them to work within the framework and under the supervision of the military and intelligence network.
