I watched Norm Mineta talking about increasing airport security and thought, what an idiot! If he wants to do something usefull, provide shooting ranges at airports for the passengers and crew to practice anti-terrorism skills.

Years ago, airlines used to offer “smoking” and “non-smoking” flights. It would be interesting to see what would happen if airlines began offering “armed” and “unarmed flights.”

There was also a column in the NY Post on Tues advocating letting cops fly free, if they were armed. The idea was that it is a nice little perq, and no one in his right mind will try taking over a plane if there is an armed man on it.

Apparently the LIRR tried the same thing with its commuter rail. It worked.

I guess they could give regular people who carry a free _first class_ ride. The average person can outshoot the average cop, and shows better judgment and restraint in crisis situations.

Wrong -- because now the bad guys know where all the guns are. First class is too small a group, and easily targeted in the initial assault.

If you allow CCW on flights, they have to be distributed throughout the plane.
