Appalling response to terror making it in Massachusetts

by Howie Carr

Sunday, September 16, 2001

Back in 1972, after we were the only state in the union to vote for George McGovern over Richard Nixon, a famous bumper sticker appeared: Don't Blame Me, I'm From Massachusetts.

Now we need a new version: Blame Me, I'm From Massachusetts.

Really, isn't it embarrassing to watch the way so many of the Beautiful People from Massachusetts have conducted themselves since Tuesday?

When exactly did we corner the market on horse's asses? It's not just the Taliban Twins in the congressional delegation - Osama bin Meehan and Richie ``the Sheik'' Neal.

What about the thousands of marijuana-addled burnouts at yesterday's ``HempFest'' on the Common? Forget the security angle - maybe history will show that we are overreacting, that there was no real and present danger of a biological or nuclear strike from these savages.

But what about some simple common decency? The bodies of most of the victims haven't even been recovered, and these latter-day hippies are partying, getting stoned in public. Have they at long last no sense of shame?

Speaking of no shame, there's the Amherst board of selectmen - excuse me, the Selectboard, as they say in the People's Republic. The night before the sneak attack, they restricted the waving of Old Glory on Main Street utility poles to six days a year.

The vote was 4-1. The lone dissenter wanted to allow the flag to be flown only one day a year.

I say God bless the handful of patriots who liberated the flags Tuesday morning from the box they'd been dumped in at the DPW. Just after the savage attack, a few American citizens put the flags back up on Main Street, in open defiance of Town Hall.

Finally we come to the congressional collaborators, Osama bin Meehan and Richie the Sheik. First Richie. Who knew he could even talk? The last time I remember him speaking was when he called his local newspaper to deny that he had impregnated one of his aides.

As for Maaaaahty, well, he has this habit of developing teenage-girl-like crushes on more powerful alpha males.

First it was Paul Sheehy - Marty even visited the solon after he went to prison for bank fraud. Then he attached himself to Bob Kraft, and later Bill Clinton. But . . . Osama bin Laden?

So Marty is quoted as saying that it was ``spin'' and ``PR'' for President Bush to claim Air Force One was a target.

I asked Maaaaahty Friday, was the Capitol evacuated Thursday night because of a bomb scare?

``Yes,'' he said.

Did you evacuate?

``Yes.''

Was that spin and PR?

No answer, obviously, except to say that his statement was ``taken out of context.''

As appalling as Martin T. (for Taliban) Meehan's slur of the commander-in-chief was, what's even sicker is the nostalgia both he and the Sheik seem to feel for Bill Clinton, the war hero.

Apparently Marty's forgotten how his idol handled the last bunch of bloodthirsty terrorists who tried to bring New York to its knees. He pardoned them - to win Puerto Rican votes for his horrible wife. Then, as his administration expired, Clinton pardoned multiple money-launderers for our Mideast foes after one of their buxom wives funneled cash to Clinton's ``library.''

As for Clinton, did you see him Thursday night at the Armory, groping young female survivors, kissing them in a very touchy-feely way, emphasis on feely. Then Friday, at the National Cathedral, he gave Bill Cohen's wife, Janet Langhart, a hug, in a Kathleen Willey-like fashion, feeling her pain and perhaps other parts of her anatomy as well.

Memo to Marty and the Sheik: believe it or not, most of your constituents don't listen to NPR, they don't want to free cop-killer Mumia, and they didn't cheer when the Arabs murdered thousands of their fellow citizens in the greatest hate crime in American history.

God save the commonwealth of Massachusetts.

I heard Meehan on the air back-peddling so fast he must have been leaving skid marks...

It was pathetic

Fine, hand over Massachussets to the Taleban then. I don't care.

I'm sure Representative Meehan would be delighted to carefully consider your opinions if you care to call tomorrow. (202-225-3411)

These stupid hippies don't want war with Bin Laden because he was a good source of their hashish.

If there's a renewal of the draft, I have 1,000 candidates for the first draw: the freshman class of Harvard University and they can be joined by Allan Dershowitz and other "mouths" on the Harvard Faculty. Give their places to the surviving fireman and rescue squad members in New York.

BTTT! Good to see someone in MA is not a Marxist.

Don't give up on all of us. The street a couple of blocks from me has dozens of flags out -- (my block less so, but I put one out hoping to get things started). The other day, somebody drove by in a pickup truck with the BIGGEST flag in the back! Yes, even in MA (and I am right next to Cambridge!)

What a sad commentary about a state that once figured prominently in the establishment of freedom and patriotism. My heart goes out to the few conservatives who live in such a deluded, socialist climate.

Moved out of there two years ago, strongly suggest same for any x-ers, especially if you plan on raising family anytime soon. Reality: Homo/hippie/boomers have a stranglehold on state gov, and give no quarter to opposing ideals or demographics. Much greener pastures just about everywhere else.

At a large house party about a year go here in the midwest the subject jokingly came up in one conclave about which state would be the least missed. at first Arkansas, New York, Mississippi, were the favorites, until I offered Massachusetts. All present stopped a moment in deep thought and immediately made it unanimous.

Wow! I wish Howie's program would/could come to Phoenix and replace one of ours, like Dr. Laura's three-hours!!!

Is Howie restricted only to the East Coast?

Forget the security angle - maybe history will show that we are overreacting, that there was no real and present danger of a biological or nuclear strike from these savages.

History will show that President Bush's despicable predecessor gutted the organizations that we needed to fight this scourge and did nothing to bring Bin Laden to justice for earlier crimes. Nothing except bomb an aspirin factory to deflect attention away from Monicagate, that is. As for overreacting, I will not consider any reaction to be overreacting. If anything, I will consider it to be under reacting.

My letter to Marty Meehan. Please note, he ignored the last paragraph in responding:

1 Main Street
Anytown, Massachusetts 0XXXX
September 15, 1998

The Honorable Martin T. Meehan
House of Representatives
Washington, DC 20515

Dear Congressman Meehan:

I have taken this opportunity to send you a Xerox copy of the dictionary meaning of the word shame, since neither you nor our president, a member of your party, seem to know the meaning of this word, either as a noun nor are capable of experiencing it as a verb, (transitive). While you are in the S’s you might look for your misplaced self-respect.

Please spare the obvious retort that I need not look as far as the S’s to find self-righteousness and smugness. I am keenly aware of my short-comings. That old bromide “Let he who is without sin…” applied as you might be tempted to suggest would restraint us from making any moral judgments at all. Sure Hitler had his faults, but he loved dogs and small (blond) children. He got the Sherman economy going and made people feel goot about Shermany.

I would not bother to write if I did not think that you were basically a very decent and honorable person, as Howie Carr says “not a bad guy.” Please reconsider your misplaced loyalty to this flawed, evil and profoundly corrupt man. (I am not a sexual prude, and I do not use the words evil, corrupt or profoundly lightly.) I believe that history will judge WJC to be one of the least suitable men to hold his office, worse in every way than Harding and far worse than Nixon.

I would appreciate it if you could enlighten me on one point: What is it about this odd man that inspires loyalty in others? He has never expended the least morsel of this virtue on any principle nor any person with the possible exception of Chelsea. He holds them all equally disposable if inconvenient nor any unembracable if opportune.

Don’t feed me blather about all the good that he’s done or how he cares about people, or any other answer which you obviously cannot believe. I mean this. Please explain to me your seeming inexplicable loyalty to this most bizarre creature.

Yours ashamedly,

Lonesome in Massachussets
