KABUL, Afghanistan -- Pakistan is to give the Taliban rulers of Afghanistan three days to hand over suspected terrorist Osama bin Laden or face U.S. military action.

The ultimatum comes as Pakistan makes eleventh-hour diplomatic efforts to prevent a military strike in the region.

>>I believe the first bombing of Japan took place in '43.<<

Wasn't the Billy Mitchell air raid (30 Seconds over Tokyo) in 1942?

" ... and to speak in politically correct language (so not vermin of mother-f$$$$rs), let's call the hijackers & Comp. what they really are: 'Soldiers'. They are waging a war, as they themselves claim, but it hence follows that they are commiting war crimes. ..."

" ...what they really are: 'Soldiers'..." Thank you for this slant of reality. Indeed, they are solders and view themselves as such.

Imagine the amount of information, perspectives, competeing branches, attitudes, and contradictions the meetings of our President and his cabinet, military, and related security agencies, are bringing to the fore for consideration. A Herculean task, indeed.

How much information is enough? Instant decisions that have profound consequences and life altering ones for all of us. Wisdom demands these decisions are made prudently and not in the heat of inflamed impulses.

While we are eager for effective military response, we do want to portend an effective and triumphant outcome.

Being Friends and Allies with other nations is important and desirable; however it usually is based on what is in each of these nations interest at the moment, in regard to how supporting they are. Many of us (americans) think our way of life and our Republic form of government is a beacon for other countries to see, learn something about how it can work and perhaps choose to move in a like direction. Freedom, independence, liberty, justice, and opportunity are fundamentals we cling to perpetuating with resolute purpose.

Welcome.

So,are you saying we should waste multi-million dollar cruise missles to take out a half-dozen people,or do you think we should keep them in reserve to assure that "serious nations" don't attack us or our allies because they know we have the ability to strike back?

>>The US government has been trying to do this for years.<<

I doubt they have been making any serious efforts.

>>The accounts are not in his name and he doesnt go to the bank and make deposits and withdrawals.<<

So? Do you really think nobody knows which bank accounts any of the money used by these terrorists came from,or that none if it can be traced back to specific banks?

One afternoon, I sat less than 4 miles away, in a Baghdad garden -- and watched as the Israeli Air Force rearranged the frog-eating-surrender-queen built nuclear reactor facility to match its [Stone-Age] surroundings.

During Soddom's eight years long war of aggression against Iran, in which he slaughtered more than one million people, I flew in and out of Baghdad [Once seated a row or so away from ABC's Barbara Walters in the First Class cabin of an Alia Royal Jordanian Boeing 727] more that 60 times -- and, also during that time, made a number of overland trips between Kuwait and Bagdad -- on more than one occasion [Usually in a Toyota Crown rented from the Al-Mansur Melia Hotel] while the opposing forces exchanged tank and artillery fire over my head.

I missed nothing -- and I miss-stated nothing.

Soddom Hisownson -- the Butcher of Baghdad -- and now of Manhattin -- and every one of his obscene, mass-murdering gangster "government" -- are all for the dirt nap!

>> but we shouldn't let the what-ifs paralyze our ability to mount an attack on those who are responsible for the deaths and destruction within the American borders.<<

It's not a question of "let". The reality is that we do NOT have the ability to fight a "two front war",and the Pentagram finally admitted this once Bubba left office. It's obvious you have no idea how weakened the US military became under Bubba's "leadership". Money for COO training, and no money for small arms ammo.

>>Can you imagine FDR saying after Pearl Harbor that we couldn't go after the Imperial Japanese Fleet because of the possiblity of having an attack on American shipping by German U-boats? <<

Well, yeah, because this is what he actually did. He pretty much abandoned Asia the first year or more in order to focus on the war in Europe. Ever hear about the Japanese taking the Phillapines? No US relieve efforts,no US resupply ships,no US reinforcements. King Franklin even ordered McArthur to abandon his command and go to Australia. It was in all the papers.

>>Of course not, that's why your argument is fatuous on it's face.<<

ROFLMAO!

>>But he must be gotten rid of. He is a mealy-mouthed blot upon the administration. <<

If you are talking about Powell, don't worry about him. He will be self-eliminating. He will have a public policy dispute with the Bush administration, and publically resign in "outrage" to hit the tv talk shows. When Bubbette! runs for president in 2004 and questions are asked about her radicalism,Powell will be seen as a "moderating influence" on her,and will hear his country "calling him again",and "do his patriotic duty " by running as her VP.

Holy catfish, after reading the article and all the posts, I'm surprised that there isn't a GOP aide that isn't reading these posts to see what the consensus is.

After having a few days to ponder and think about this, and not be so reactionary, I'm angrier now because we are giving these people time to manage yet another attack on our country.

Yes, We are letting them consolidate their forces, and at the same time letting people run away from the areas we plan to bomb. We will never get all of the people we need to get because of our ability to let people have enough room to work. How ignorant is that?

All things considered, why didn't we give them a 24 hour deadline? I think the phone company and utility companies, as well as the student loan department of the dept of education needs to teach GW and crew a fwe lessons on how to get people to cough things up!

Sanctions will do nothing. These people are already half destroyed. Now that I think about it, what happens when we destroy a country? We rebuild them. Hell, maybe this is their way of urban renewal.

I say when we bomb, and destroy, there is no pity, no remorse, and no rebuilding. No reparations, let them take care of their own. That way we can let them know what it is to be truly Godless. Actually, we can let the countries who owe us money, like France for instance, to pay for the damage. They owe it to us, let them rebuild those countries we decimate in the attempt to rid the world of terrorism, and capture the people who did this thing to us.

For all of you out there who believe in America, and what it stands for, pray for our nation, and pray for those who have lost. Pray for our leaders so they may have wisdom, and pray for our soldiers who are to fight for a righteous cause. I know I will be.

I will, if W wimpos out .... if doesn't nuke them

You are a lunatic. Feel free to vote Democrat in 2004--we won't miss your vote.

You and others who want to start a nuclear war, regardless of the consequences, are irrelevant to the discussion because you are mad. Just as mad as Osama bin Laden.

He'd love nothing more than for us to drop nuclear weapons and for the immediate chaos it would created worldwide. He'd love for this to become a war of all of Islam against the West. He hopes that our President is as crazy as you.

It is absolutely correct to give the Taliban an ultimatum. That gives us the absolute right to go in and destroy them when they don't comply. Our President has no intention of destroying the global support we have, including that of much of the Arab world, by launching a nuclear strike.

It wouldn't harm bin Laden. It would vaporize a bunch of peasants, a few of whom have rifles. It's not how we are going to conduct this war, and if you don't like it, that's your problem.

We have grown-ups in charge, not idiots.

The chest-beating needs to stop and some thinking-caps donned.

I'd love to nuke somebody myself, but who and for what?

The threat is in the terrorist cells. From the first WTC bombing, we know there are hundreds of terrorist cells in the USA - wannabe or otherwise.

The media is already painting a fake picture. It's necessary for FR contributors to address pertinent facts in context.

I'm as furious as anybody, but anger is the least-effective option; thinking is required.

The FAA, in particular, set this up amidst a flurry of government reports and pleas for legitimate airport security.

This is part of the Clinton legacy with his Presidential Executive Order 12866 - among other manipulations.

There is no appreciable difference between knowingly allowing something to happen; and making it happen.

It's necessary to do some homework & stop the enabling mechanisms - in addition to discovering and rooting out the terrorist cells.

The Clinton administration silenced the undeniable middle-eastern connections in the TWA-800 downing and the OKC bombing. The links need to be documented and connected with all other bombings. They are connected. If the problem isn't put into correct and accurate perspective, we're guaranteed to make deadly mistakes.

If anyone has any doubts, note that Afghanistan isn't on the list of 'terrorist harboring' countries - even after the first WTC bombing. Get the picture???

Who besides myself are annoyed with these armchair generals

AMEN.

But I would change "annoyed with" to "sick to death of." They are complete and utter idiots. I would say to all of them: "If you are not with us, you, too, are against us." You might THINK about stopping your ignorant carping and give a thought to supporting your country. If not now, when?
