Yes i'm glad you asked that. Two stories actually.

One is the (documented) fact that my folks arrived on these shores in 1620 and fought for freedom in the Revolutionary and all subsequent wars.

The other is this haunting poem:

On Concord Bridge
by the ghost of Captain John Parker

Once on Concord bridge I stood and fought for liberty.
There we vied to keep our arms and crushed the enemy.
Stalwart men in Boston filled the harbor with black tea,
Speaking by their actions to his royal Majesty,
Saying that we soon would shed the yoke of tyranny.
Many fine Americans were striving to be free,
But our discordant voices could not shout across the sea.
Samuel Adams raised our voice in thunderous unity,
On July the Fourth we sent the king our firm decree.
Thereupon we drove the Redcoats out into the sea.
Turncoats rule now in their stead from Washington D.C.,
Raising Patrick's voice again for death or liberty.
Where has gone the gift we left for our posterity?
Once I slept in blessed peace, but justice summons me,
To march again in spirit with all men whose hearts are free.
Here again on Concord Bridge I stand and call to thee,

I was reading the words to the Battle Hymn of Rep. and this goes right along with it.

this is the last verse:
