But, Clinton did these things more to get his own personal problems off the front pages for a few days rather than for honest retaliation for terrorism.

Those days are over. President George W. Bush has no such personal problems.

Terrorists pricked the ass of the sleeping giant. Now that giant is awake, united, totally pissed off, and demanding retribution!

Our government asked that Afghanistan turn over Osama bin Laden for trial as a terrorist. Afghanistan did not. Well, please don't now. This is war, now. The time for long, drawn out trials is over. Now comes the time for Osama bin Laden, all his coconspirators, and his supporters, to cease to exist.

Which means, a bright line in the sand must be drawn. All Arab countries must pick a side. After the dust settles, those governments on the wrong side of that line will certainly be abolished and supervised provisional republics will be set up in their place.

Arab terrorists started the war. We shall end it. And, in the process, one message will become strikingly clear to everyone in the world: Americans love their Liberty and are willing to kill anyone who violates it.

I hope that these government agencies are reigned in, "in protecing liberty", to only "round up" the real terrorists.

Is the genie out of the bottle here?

I wonder what would have happened while [Jan "the man" Reno] was still in power?

Well, if I thought "Break the door down, confiscate the porn" Republicans were any more enamored of liberty that "Break the door down, confiscate the guns" Democrats, I might have some speculation for you. Unfortunately, I don't.

Very powerful writing. One of the best posts in recent memory.

(I'll add a "2001 update" to this when the time is appropriate.)

Abhor the thought. C2G (Clinton, Clinton and Gore)plus Reno would have spelled the end.

Last night I was visiting with my father-in-law, an almost 87 year old retired LTC. (He retired in 1961, was in Korea at the start of the war) I asked him if he could imagine Al Gore looking the same and giving the same speech as President Bush did yesterday at Camp David. Wow, did I set him off! He has a MS degree in history and he let me know how un-presidential Gore would have been. He used examples of speeches going back 200+ years.

This is a great post. Too many mox-nix posts going up now. Just like the news casters, they have nothing "new" to say so they just repackage what has already been said.

that flash you see may be your last

Time to hand over bin Laden and get down on your knees to the Great Satan to beg for mercy, raghead scum. Your days are numbered.

I've been sharing this one where the threads are appropriate...sage counsel from Edward R. Murrow:

We can deny our history and our heritage, but we cannot escape responsibility for the result. As a nation we have come into our full inheritance at a tender age. We proclaim ourselves, as indeed we are, the defenders of freedom, what's left of it. But we cannot defend freedom abroad by abandoning it at home.

There is some very firm information that is known to many public officials but has not yet been made public for some reason.

Many times we (me included) harangue government agents for what appears to be overreacting. Last Tuesday was not one such time. The swift actions of federal officials and federal police last Tuesday were nothing short of heroic. When the full story comes out, the direction and expert leadership of the Bush Administration will eventually be chronicled in the annals of history as immediate emergency actions that saved many thousands of American lives.

A government source who is very much in the know, who prefers to remain anonymous at this time, indicated that there were actually twenty teams of hijackers ready to act last Tuesday. That only four of the teams got off the ground was because the federal government suspended all flights around the country. The four early flights got off the ground. The others did not.

No one yet knows for sure the targets of these other hijacking operations. But, we must assume that they were all similarly high-visibility targets, as were the three hijacked aircraft that hit buildings. Which means, many, many thousands more Americans were targeted for death.

Therefore, we must give credit where credit is due. Under the Bush Administration, the FBI and FAA acted immediately and decisively in quickly suspending all air traffic throughout the country -- very heroic actions for bureaucrats to take in our Constitutional Republic where Liberty is prized.

In this case, the faceless bureaucracy worked perfectly. We owe them our gratitude for saving countless thousands of American lives by their swift and decisive action. In truth, a few thousand Americans probably own them their lives.

...twenty teams of hijackers ready to act last Tuesday.

This is very credible information due to the fact that several suspects have been caught carrying similar items in airports (knives, fake credentials, etc.) in the past few days. We cannot just call this a coincidence. Would any SANE Muslim/Arab carry anything that could imply guilt in light of the attacks? Yes, the feds have done a great job in such a terrible situation.

During this crisis, I have tried to keep my finger-pointing and partisanship to a minimum, but we can't help but to wonder what the outcome would have been if the federal government, for the past 8+ years had not wasted so much time, energy and resources focusing on trivial matters instead of tracking the movements of the REAL enemy. Would this have even happened?

One problem to the coming US attack against Afghanistan...Since Pakistan has refused to allow US ground forces to enter the country, we are going to have to invade Pakistan in order to get to Osama Bin Laden and overthrow the Taleban in Kabul. The only problem with that is that Pakistan is a nuclear power with at least 25 deliverable nuclear weapons atop MRBMs and IRBMs and carried by fighter bombers. If we invade Pakistan, we will likely start World War III and it won't be pretty. So unless we can get Pakistan or decide to do a Desert Storm against Iran on the way to Kabul, we may have to settle with dropping off the 82nd Airborne in hostile territory or Special Forces in northern Afghanistan to rendevous with the 15,000 Northern Alliance troops to train and arm them against the Taleban.

The world must know that terrorists may not come to the United States and violate the Life, Liberty and Property of the American people.

Thanks Fred for making sure I didn't miss this.
