WHY THE WORLD TRADE CENTER?

Posted on 09/13/2001 3:16:00 AM PDT by jporcus

I wonder why they went after the World Trade Center? Wouldn't they have made a stronger statement hitting more traditional symbols like the Empire State Building, or the Statue of Liberty, or the GW Bridge? Just curious what drives these monsters.

I heard a report yesterday that Bin Laden had wanted to bring the WTC down for some time, probably for the reasons posted by anniegetyourgun.

1) Maximum body count was their goal

2) World Trade Center is the EASIEST target to hit in NYC, due to it's unobstructed angle of attack from the south (NY harbor).

One reason is that it's seen as a Jewish symbol in a heavily Jewish city.

Seen as symbol of Jewish control over the American economy.

Above is not what I think but what some folks in foreign nations think

What WE can do today...

It's obvious the terrorist attacks on America Tuesday, were designed to create economic havoc within our borders, perhaps even cause a depression. It is the duty of every American to not allow that to happen. If our buying habits are curtailed, our economy will suffer, and they will have won.

With all the "breaking news," it's difficult to turn off the television, and go buy that special item you had planned on purchasing . . . or just to take the family out to dinner. We encourage everyone to Fly "Old Glory", and continue on as you always have. To all that have lost family, loved ones, and friends, we offer this special prayer:

A Prayer for America:

http://www.dobhran.com/greetings/GRprayerforusa.htm

To our enemies, we need this attack to simply be a minor economic speed bump that has awakened a sleeping GIANT that is united in it's resolve.

"The deliberate and deadly attacks . . . were more than acts of terror. They were acts of war. The United States of America will use all our resources to conquer this enemy. We will rally the world. We will be patient. We'll be focused, and we will be steadfast in our determination. This battle will take time and resolve, but make no mistake about it, we will win."
- President George W. Bush

"In this storm-tossed world of terrorists and totalitarians, America must always champion freedom, for freedom is the one tide that will lead us to the safe and open harbor of peace."
- Ronald Reagan

"The American People are slow to wrath, but when their wrath is once kindled it burns like a consuming flame."
- Theodore Roosevelt

Terrorists don't make a big splash by killing buildings. Buildings return. The WTC had people; the most people.

Hitting those other building would not have the effect of bringing the world's capitalism to a halt in the way that hitting the WTC has had.

Newer construction. Clearly not as sturdy as older structures you mentioned.

The attack on the WTC, having previously been defined by Bin Laden as THE target, was the terrorists equivalent of Babe Ruth pointing to the spot he was going to place his home run shot. I pray (and am ready to beleive) that the Bush administration will turn the American peoples anger at this stunning display of arrogance and contempt into a Gotterdamerung for our those who foolishly underestimate us. Take care Tree and thanks for the interesting posts today.

bringing the world's capitalism to a halt...

They will be disappointed. Few companies would locate computers in a high rise, and those that do would have back-ups in anonomous low rise buildings in the suburbs.

One of the trading conpanies located above the fire was based in London. This company will suffer, but did not lose any data. Many companies relocated their key people away from these buildings after the bombing.

There are many small blessings in this tragedy. Many people were aware of danger, due to the previous bombing, and evacuated immediately. The stairwells were lit this time. Whatever the final death toll, it will be about half what it would have been without the warning shot.

The WTC is, first, the target that the Arabs intended to bring down in February 1993. Moreover, it is the most conspicious building - and that includes in the sense that it can be seen for miles aways - in the Wall Street area and the Arabs wanted to show an ability to attack Wall Street, show it in a way that could be seen from the NJ shore and for ten and twenty miles aways, not just some touristy spot like the Statue of Liberty. The Arab press kept talking about Wall Street as if it were the center of a Jewish enclave, although in my grandfather's time many of the institutions there made a point of refusing to hire Jews.

The Arab press kept talking about Wall Street as if it were the center of a Jewish enclave,

Could well be a major reason. This attack was surely intended to be, at least as much as a quick trip to Allah Land for the perps, a popular play "back home."

Dropping bombs on isolated terrorists and their sponsors will not solve the mideast problem which deserves a more comprehensive solution.

We must take Iraq while the world is sympathetic to our plight. Pump enough oil to significantly reduce oil prices, stimulating the world economy. The lower oil prices will cause the mideast regimes to collapse so we must set up democracies there. Buy western Jordan for a new Palestinian state with infrastructure paid for by the Iraqi oil fields. Create US bases in Iraq from which to enforce regional stability. Afghanistan/Syria/Iran/Sudan are much easier to deal with once the US bases are in place with a million troops to back up our policies. And it gets rid of the requirement for US carriers over there.

DO IT NOW. WE MUST USE THIS OPPORTUNITY TO STABILIZE THE MIDEAST AND NEUTRALIZE TERRORISM.

BUMP

Back in the 1980s I interviewed a variety of Middle-Eastern Arabs from different countries, and I got the impression that their hatred of Jews was secondary when compared to their jealousy over the rise of Gentiles to world prominence. After they answered a series of carefully worded questions, I felt that they were basically jealous because of the loss of the Ottoman Empire and previous influential Arab empires and the loss of the high status that Arabs once had in the world. Their feelings of anger are also related to the way some of the militants interpret their religion, and because of this, they despise Christians and Jews.

Several of them reminded me of scientific developments made by Arabs a long time ago and the vast territories they once controlled. So, I felt that much of their anger toward the United States was directed against what they see as our Gentile “success” in the world. In other words, very simply, the militant ones want to “control the world” and “be important again” and be more influential in world affairs, but today Arabs are not very influential at all, except for the world’s need of some of their oil supplies.

This jealousy would be similar to the militant German jealousy of England and France in the 1930s, and Japan’s jealousy of China and the militant desire to dominate the entire Orient.

I think that to the militant Arabs, the WTC represented the largest ostentatious symbol of American (Gentile and Jewish) success in the world.

Four planes could have actually taken out more people if they attacked several of our football stadiums on New Year’s Day, during the major bowl games, but the stadiums are not symbols of US world importance and commerce. In this regard, even the White House and Capitol buildings would be considered secondary targets.

I think this particular attack is not too much related to the Palestinian-Jewish situation, not as much as basic militant Arab jealousy about the general “success” of American Gentiles.

No offense intended I assure you. But think hard about your overall argument which was essentially sumed up by the last statement. Jealousy is a vice of all humanity and resentment of American power and wealth is not unique to Arabs or Islam. Why then do we not face an onslaught of Mexican or Hindi terror. If it is Gentile success that enrages these people, why then is not Germany or Japan at the recieving end of this wrath. No, what is unique is that which you try to discount. American power and wealth is placed unequivocably at the service of Israel, for the sake of this argument let us not even question the wisdom or correctness of this fact.

Fred: Even though a lot of Mexicans are jealous of us, there are already a lot of successful Mexicans here, and a lot of them do like us and a lot of us like them. We vacation down there. We love Cancun and Acapulco. Many Hindis want to get out of their own countries and they want to become successful and make money. They know we won’t try to suppress their religion over here. Japanese aren’t “Gentiles”. Germany is too small and was whipped by America. Attacking Germany would be like attacking..... Alabama.

I’m certainly not the world’s greatest psychologist, but this is just some information I picked up during my lifetime, and this is my evaluation of it. After centuries of not much activity in Italy, except for the gradual expansion of Catholicism around the world, Mussolini suddenly comes along and wants to rebuild the old “Roman Empire”. He was able to talk a lot of young Italian men into having that same dream, but the Italians in general weren’t really enthusiastic about it, and they finally turned against Mussolini.

Germany, since about the mid-19th Century had quite a lot of young guys and militarists who wanted Germany to dominate Europe, then when the Nazis came along, they wanted Germany to dominate the whole world, and they were able to propagandize many of their fellow citizens to cause them to feel the same way. The Japanese militarists of the 1930s-‘40s wanted Japan to dominate all the Orient, and then maybe later dominate the world, and they used media propaganda very effectively in Japan. The leaders of these three groups liked the idea of outright invasion and military domination of the other major countries, which, of course, turned out to be a mistake.

At different times during the past 500 years, England and Spain, and to some extent Portugal, wanted to sort of dominate the world in terms of gaining colonies. It was much easier for them to invade a lot of small countries and steal their natural resources than to fight directly against other major countries, so that’s the route their leaders took.

Ok, according to some of the militant Islamic Arabs I interviewed, mainly back in the 1980s, they seemed to me to be more interested in rebuilding a great Arabic Empire, and they were very jealous of what they looked upon as the “American Empire”, even though we Americans don’t have too many “colonies”, and even though their feud with us doesn’t go all the way back to Biblical times. Some of the guys I interviewed expressed a great disgust about what the Gentiles did to the Arabs during the Crusades. Well, heck, personally I never hold grudges that long, but some of them do. Not all of them, of course, but some of the extreme militants among them do.

Some of them wanted to promote Islam, but I got the impression that not all of them were religious, and even Islam was a “secondary” motive. Of course they didn’t like Jews and they wanted to wipe out Jews, but I got the impression that their greatest “gripe” was the loss of an Arabic Empire around the world, and the lack of respect they generally receive from all the major groups of people in the world today. Its like they had a..... pathological hatred of people who didn’t look up to them, and they tended to focus their hatred on America, rather than on Israel, because they tended to think of America as the world largest modern “Empire”.

Of course I don’t need to remind you that America is “great” not just because of the Gentiles and Anglo-Saxons among us, but because of the Jews, the Japanese, the British, the Spanish, the Germans, the French, the Chinese, etc., etc., and everyone else who works here, including non-militant Arabic businessmen.

No, what is unique is that which you try to discount. American power and wealth is placed unequivocally at the service of Israel, for the sake of this argument let us not even question the wisdom or correctness of this fact.

Fred: Well, England supports Israel, but the militant Arabs didn’t attack England. That’s because England is no longer the “leader of the world”, and it’s Empire has shrunk dramatically since the end of WW II.

Regarding the recent attacks, for these particular Arabs involved, the “Israel” thing (the Isaac/Ishmael family dispute) is fairly minor when compared to the “Arabian Empire/American Empire” thing. That’s why they didn’t crash the four planes into Israel. These terrorists weren’t “Palestinians”. Their dislike of Jews is actually fairly minor when compared to their dislike of Americans. They were militant Islamic Arabs from different countries, dreaming of a new Arabian Empire.
