Article discusses the fate of World Trade Center, focusing on the reporters covering the attack, the firemen who sought to save the victims, and who in the process themselves became victims, and on whether George Bush has the resolve to do what must be done.

Pardon me for being unclear: some years, Paterson has been ranked the worst city in New York.

Thanks for the ping, good article.

I don't know if there's a connection here to what happened on 911 or not, but I live in Bangor, Maine. On Monday, the 10th I was listening to the local talk radio station. People began calling in saying that there were INS agents (some reports were that it was a Multi-Juridsictional Task Force) stopping people on Route 95 just north of Bangor and demanding to see driver's licenses, requesting Social Security Numbers and asking if they were U. S. citizens. People were calling in because they were enraged at the action. There was nothing reported about it in the local paper (Bangor Daily News).

In light of what happened on Tuesday and the fact that the highjackers are said to have entered the country through Canada, I wonder if there was some information out there about the attack that caused this roadblock - which is EXTREMELY unusual in these parts.

Just speculation on my part, but it got me thinking. I'm not even sure of the implications or if there are any.

"....you couldn't necessarily count on a citizen having one there when needed."

Like concealed carry, the idea is that the bad guys don't know that. While I prefer open carry, The hijackers could count on a good possibility that they would be summarily ventilated should they try anything.

They could also count on myself being armed every time I get on an airplane. I believe that there are enough people like me to put a stop to this kind of tragedy. And, unlike the sky marshall program, it won't cost the govt or the airlines a thing. If such services were needed, I wouldn't even send them a bill for the ammo.

I feel that it needs to be put right into the face of Sara Brady and her kind that they have the blood of every single one of these victims on their hands. If I get the chance, I will.

Bump!

At the very least, any police officer, on or off duty, should be allowed (encouraged) to carry his weapon whenever he rides a plane. Since carrying weapons in airports or in Federal buildings is covered by Federal law, perhaps the Federal government could start issuing concealed carry permits good in any airport or federal building to anyone who passes a security check. It sure would be nice to have some armed good guys riding the planes, not just armed bad guys.

It's not too late to get even, Fred. Even is what you get, AFTER you get sucker-punched. The feds may have initially failed, and failed us for a long time, but they are going to have to change, and we are going to have to see to it that they do. It is beyond the abilities of firemen and policemen to protect us against this enemy. Firemen marched into those towers to their deaths. We need men who are able to do things that firemen and police can't. And that is just what the feds are for.

You may well have something, Madame D. Such behavior is indeed extremely unusual; the timing just seems too close to be a mere coincidence.

Bad news, folks: the six firemen who were rescued today were all themselves "rescuers" who had been trapped in the wreckage. None of the people buried two days ago were saved.
