Hold them accountable? For what? Anyone can set up a storefront at CafePress and sell t-shirts, mousepads, etc with any graphic on them you want. This is an e-business - I doubt a human being ever saw the graphic in question until (I'm guessing) someone complained, and they apparently did the right thing and removed it.

HERE IS A SIMPLE SOLUTION FOR THESE JERKS: AS MANY PEOPLE AS POSSIBLE SHOULD GO TO THE WEBSITE AND GO THROUGH THE ORDERING PROCESS. BUT, USE THE NAME AND ADDRESS SPACES TO VOICE YOUR OPINIONS OF THEM IN ANY LANGUAGE YOU DESIRE. I JUST DID AND IT GOES THROUGH JUST FINE.

I'll hold them accountable for allowing it to be posted. Such a thing as corporate ethics. I've already started my chain letter...

You know, it's a real shame the brainfart(s) who designed the shirt didn't post an email address of their own. It's a little bit funny...granted...but it's VERY sick.

Sent them an e-mail suggesting that they take their entire inventory to New York City. There are loads of Firemen and Policemen who would just LOVE to buy a t-shirt or three.

Allowing it to be posted? This is an automated web site, with nobody, as far as I know, policing what's offered. How about the posts on FR? Who allows those to be posted? This works the same way - Use their equivalent of the abuse button and it will be elevated to human attention. I'm sure at that point it will be removed, if it hasn't already

I have bought and sold from them in the past, as do many on FR (they print up all of Registered's stuff for purchase)

Cafepress is, except for their new screen-printing services, produces their wares only on demand. Someone orders a shirt, they validate the credit card, print out a thermal transfer, put it on the shirt, and out it goes. The only "inventory" of unsold merchandise is entirely blank.

Cafepress allows people to create "stores" without any human intervention, much as Freerepublic.com allows people to post articles. If someone actually tries to order something, someone at cafepress.com would have to actually look at it (to get the transfer in the right place if nothing else), but otherwise I doubt if any human being at cafepress.com has ever looked at most of the pictures available there.

BTW, how were the prices for the shirt set, compared with cafepress.com's base prices? Did someone set this up to make a profit, or did they just use cafepress.com as a custom printing service (I've done precisely that in the past; if you're curious, click here for my 'store')? I wouldn't be surprised if it was the latter.

I received the following e-mail from CafePress today:

Thank you for your email to CafePress.com regarding the merchandise promoting the recent tragedy in NYC and Washington DC.

CafePress.com agrees that the design was in poor taste, and we have removed it from our service. CafePress.com allows users to design and sell their own merchandise. As soon as we learned of the offensive merchandise being sold through our service, we immediately closed the store and removed the member from our service.

We would like to extend our prayers and thoughts to the victims of the recent events in NY and Washington D.C. and their families. Many members of the CafePress.com community have been directly affected by the tragedy - we even have employees that have losses in their own families.

Briefly:

* CafePress.com does not design the merchandise on our site. We host online stores and help people sell their own merchandise. It is impossible for us to monitor everything that gets posted on our service as it gets posted.

* We DO have a high standard for what stays on the site - and remove things that are not up to that standard. In this case - we removed the store within minutes of the first person reaching our offices this morning.

* And in true American spirit, we refuse to chase negativity with more negativity. Thus we've turned the link around into a positive message. Please feel free to take a look:

http://www.cafepress.com/cp/store/productdetail.aspx?prodno=1468594&zoom=yes

Out heart-felt wishes go out to everyone affected. The strength of America, and of freedom world wide, is in banding together in times of need and supporting positive growth, healing, and rebuilding. If you feel the new page helps support a worthy cause, please let others know.

And as always - we at CafePress.com support our community, and always welcome suggestions. If you have any positive ideas on how we might be able to help out more, please let us know.

With Best Wishes,

CafePress.com

I hate to say I told you so, but...

I agree with the sentiment that this shirt is an abomination - However, I hate to see the innocent and decent folks over at CafePress take a hit for something entirely beyond their control. As I pointed out, as soon as they were aware of it, it was deleted.

Just remember that cafepress did not create the t-shirt. It's kinda like a post by a disrupter here in the forum. It exists until JimRob is made aware of it. I am sure that they will pull this disgusting t-shirt shop as soon as they are made aware of it.

If you are looking for the merchandise related to the recent terrorist events, it is no longer available at CafePress.com. CafePress.com allows users to design and sell their own merchandise. As soon as we learned of the offensive merchandise being sold through our service, we immediately closed the store and removed the member from our service.

CafePress.com would like to extend its prayers and thoughts to the victims of the recent events in NY and Washington D.C. and their families. Many members of the CafePress.com community have been directly affected by the tragedy, and we strongly encourage our members to promote the various ways individuals can help.

  • Red Cross: (http://www.redcross.org) - Blood and monetary donations.
    Blood Donations: 1-800-448-3543.
    Monetary Donations: 1-800-HELP-NOW

  • Federal Emergency Management Agency (http://www.fema.gov) - news and alerts. Includes suggested donation avenues to help the victims of the terrorist attacks.

In addition, a large number of CafePress.com storeowners have contacted us to request ways to sell merchandise that would benefit rescue efforts, victims and their family members. In response, we will be creating a public directory of storefronts offering merchandise where proceeds will be donated directly to the Red Cross (including a portion of CafePress.com's base price). If you would like to submit your store to this directory, please email us at donate@cafepress.com.

With Best Wishes,

Good for the folks at cafepress. I saw that it was pulled and so noted that fact on another thread. Thank you for posting their decent response. By the way, their link they told you to look at sends me to their error page. Was that what they intended?
