The problem of course is that the Islamic establishment has not condemned this atrocity except in a measured way, and haltingly. Thus the vitrol of even some normally more composed posters. Unfortunately, American Muslims condeming all of this have not received much TV play. The religion in general does have a problem with tolerating "the other." Some Christians have that problem too, but it is not nearly so pervasive from that quarter, or suffused with nearly as much pyschological energy.

But I think this event will have something in the nature of a plate tectonic effect in the Islamic world. I think it will cause reflection. That is a good thing. But it will be too little too late, to persuade many of the folks on the street that it is anyting other than book balancing time. But the administration knows better, and will act accordingly, in a measured and reasoned way. In the meantime, to try to slow the venting is like trying to break up a hurricance by placing your body against the force of the wind. It simply won't have any measurable effect.

While it is true that certainly not all Muslims favor or refuse to denounce the jihadists, it is NO WAY anywhere near 1% in support. It is a LOT more.
