On 7 December 1941, a Japanese fleet of aircraft carriers, battleships, cruisers and submarines conducted a surprise attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. American casualties were 2,330 killed and 1,145 wounded.
On 11 September 2001, a terrorist fleet consisting of 4 highjacked commercial airliners and possibly a car bomb conducted a surprise attack on New York City, Washington D.C., and the Pentagon, Arlington, Virginia. American casualties are still to be determined but are estimated to surpass 10 thousand.
Imperial Admiral Yamamoto, who conceived, designed and promoted the Pearl Harbor attack, cautioned against a war with the United States. Having twice held naval attaché positions within the Japanese embassy in the U. S. Capitol, he knew well the industrial strength, material wealth and temperament of the United States. Overruled by his superiors, he dedicated his efforts as Commander in Chief of the Imperial Combined Fleet to a successful attack. Upon completion of the attack he is quoted as saying "We have awakened a sleeping giant and have instilled in him a terrible resolve".
The Pearl Harbor attack, a dastardly deed for sure, was targeted against military installations and vessels. The terrorist attack this morning was targeted against civilians in New York and Government installations and personnel in the D.C. Metro area. It is time that the "Sleeping Giant" once again awaken from its slumber as today's events were nothing less than an act of war.
Like World War II, this war means nothing less than our national survival should we fail and must be prosecuted as such.
This means no middle ground for our allies and the United Nations - support us wholeheartedly or suffer the loss of our friendship, defense capabilities and the economic benefits that go with a relationship with the world's only superpower and most benevolent nation.
This means no quarter given to any country or organization that provides safe haven, logistic, intelligence, moral or other support to terrorist groups and individuals. Such support must be considered an act of war and responded to in kind.
This means no leeway for failure by our civilian and military leaders. When our national survival is at stake careerists need to find other work. Our Republic needs its true statesmen, warriors and patriots to lead this fight - anything less than a passionate devotion is not acceptable.
This means no pandering to U.S. special interest groups or other domestic organizations or individuals who might still believe that there is a United Nations, other international consensus, or politically correct solution to prosecuting this war.
This means no pandering to the media and public opinion polls. In total war the most popular often are the most defeated. Our leadership has some tough decisions to make and our prayers should be with them.
Amen! They have awakened the sleeping giant!
TIME FOR SOME 10 MILLION CANDLEPOWER PAYBACK!!!
From the Associated Press:
Grand total 266 dead on the aircraft.
American Airlines Flight 11: A Boeing 767 en route from Boston to Los Angeles. The plane was carrying 81 passengers, nine flight attendants and two pilots. The location of the crash has not been determined.
American Airlines Flight 77: A Boeing 757 en route from Dulles Airport near Washington to Los Angeles. The plane was carrying 58 passengers, four flight attendants and two pilots. The location of the crash has not been determined.
United Airlines Flight 93: A Boeing 757, crashed southeast of Pittsburgh while en route from Newark, N.J. to San Francisco. The plane was carrying 38 passengers, two pilots and five flight attendants.
United Airlines Flight 175: A Boeing 767. The flight was bound from Boston to Los Angeles. It was carrying 56 passengers, two pilots and seven flight attendants. The airline would not say where the plane crashed.
I expect that every American airport will now look and operate like an Israeli airport. Bear in mind that about 50,000 people work in the World Trade Center and this happened in the middle of an ordinary day of business. Fortunately there was about a one-hour delay between the impacts and the collapse of the towers. A lot of the people in the towers probably got out alive.
At least 266 people died on the aircraft. A total of two United aircraft and two American Airlines aircraft have crashed, and all Freepers are encouraged to pray for the families of those killed and injured. Relief efforts, particularly donations of blood, deserve our immediate support.
It is possible that the losses at Pearl Harbor will pale in comparison to this unbelievably dastardly attack. Total killed at Pearl Harbor were 2,230. About 12 times that many were working in the WTC at the time of the attack.
One of the government spokesmen pointed out that all four flights were from the East Coast to California, and that "the bastards knew they would be loaded with fuel." NBC's Tim Russert is reporting from Washington that there is "unprecedented anger" in response to this attack, but they "don't know where or how to channel it." I anticipate that we will know very soon, and that our response will be devastating.
Bless and comfort all of those, who have been injured and killed in these many rounds of terrorist attacks upon Our Great Nation.
Comfort their families and friends...and Bless all of the Heroes that gave of themselves.....and those, who gave their lives, in trying to save others.
Bless and guide our nation's leaders to .exact the most deserved retaliation upon these EVIL COWARDS.
God Bless OUR UNITED STATES OF AMERICA...AND WE ARE STILL UNITED!!!
In Jesus Christ's name, I pray...
AMEN
It is war to the knife now. We didn't start it but we must finish it.
Make the release into our hands a public spectacle. Assure that all the major networks, US and worldwide, are present. A large US contingent of diplomats, and of course, US military, should be present.
Have Bin-Laden walk from Afghani custody toward US custody. At the half-way point, have a contigent of Marines open fire, aiming especially for his head.
At the same instant, launch coordinated surgical strikes against Arafat, Qaddafi, Hussein, the PLO, Baghdad, Tehran, and other terrorist groups and nations that may have had a hand in this, or just taken pleasure in the effect.
After this, President Bush immediately appears on television, detailing our limited actions, taking responsibilty for the execution of Bin-Laden, and annnouncing that any further acts of terrorism against America will call for a more extreme response.
New York City is the last place I'd want to attack. From my experience, New Yorkers aren't fazed by much, and the city will be up and running again before you know it.
Politics, as we know it, has been stopped for at least the next six months. There will be a national will to find out who is responsible, and then send the culprits to their just rewards. 'Talking head' disputes over Social Security and the Budget? GONE! Disputes over any national defense issue? GONE! Hillary complaining about Bush's lack of leadership? GONE! (Shucks, I'm gonna miss that one)
AND LAST, BUT NOT LEAST, Democrats (and Bill Clinton) saying what a great President he was, as we investigate and revisit what has happened to our national defense and national security over the past 8 years. I don't think too many Clintonites want to be reminded about Bill and Monica, and our attacks on aspirin factories.
Sorry, didn't want to get political, but I just had to vent.
Second. We must take all immediate defensive measures. This largely means counterintelligence. All suspicious aliens must be interned immediately. The guilty should be deported. All terrorist fronts should be closed down ASAP.
Third. We must utterly destroy the source of terrorist activity. Palestine must be destroyed, as well as Syria. Afghanistan's Taliban should be destroyed. This is for starters.
Consider first: a formal declaration of war would only start a war with Palestine and all their allies. And you know those nutcase Muslims would use chemical/bio weapons if they went to war. And they'd try to get them to the US too (and would probably succeed due to poor US security).
Speaking of US security, I bet I could find all the info I wanted about the US military on the internet or in magazines or books. Including location of all marine, navy, army, and air bases, number and capacities of all offensive equipment (fighters, ships, tanks, artillery, missles, etc).
In fact, I started a small project 2 years ago, and I got quite a lot of information. It was scary.
