Each tower held 25000 people. The pentago holds 20000 people. 10000 is a very low number. I expect total deaths to be over 25000 with total casualties well over 50000.

This will the largest loss of life in a single 'event' in the US.

I pray for the souls of those passed and for the well being of those currently injured.

Im am sure it will be more.

Do you have any idea of how many people are in those buildings during the work day? Elevators do not work when there is a fire. That leaves the stairways.

Many people were still inside those buildings when they collapsed.

Pearl Harbor took between 2,000 and 3,000 - Vietnam just over 58,000 dead, Korea I don't know but fewer than Nam and Hiroshima and Nagasaki were in the 100's of thousands.

I would say 10,000 is a low ball estimate, I would guess closer to 30,000 when all is said and done!

Some 50,000 people work in the 2 WTC towers. 10,000 dead is not unrealistic.

Sounds believeable, about 50,000 people work at the Worlld Trade Center, and 200,000 visit per day. For a weekday morning, 10,000 could be a low number.

I heard 10,000 per Tower not counting those in the planes or on the ground.
Number of deaths could conceivably top 25,000

This was to well planned to be a terrorist attack, This must have been sanctioned by a Government... "Act of War"

A local guy being interviewed on AM1500 KSTP (you can get their webcast at am1500.com I think) said that he believes probably 50,000 PER BUILDING .

Says something about our country if the worst monster we can produce out of our own loins is Tim McVeigh. People thought he was bad, or the Unabomber was bad, they got *nothing* on the people who really *want* to take this country down.

Yes, you should believe it and yes we are at war. The WTC holds 50,000 people. God bless the dead and heal the wounded.

My wife and I just got back from the hospital to donate blood. We hope that freepers will lead the way in this effort throughout the country. It isn't much but is something that we can all do.

And one last thing. Bin Laden should be dead before the sun sets!

If I recall, about 2,500 Americans died in Pearl Harbor. Hiroshima had immediate casualties of 70,000, and many more injuries and deaths resulting from radiation sickness.

There are 50,000 people working in the WTC alone. I have been in contact with people who work in the vicinity of the WTC towers. They are stranded in the buildings. They cannot get out due to the debris on the ground. There was thick smoke outside their windows and they are petrified. This is a disaster beyond belief.

I just hope we find out the terrorist organization that did this and remove them from the face of the earth. Collateral damage be damned. This is WORSE than Pearl Harbor. Far worse.

These numbers are too high. Let's calm down people.

The Pentagon was being evacuated early - lower casualties.

The WTC towers didn't fall immediately, and evacuations began quickly. The first to collapse stood for at least 20 minutes, the second for over an hour. Moreover, reports indicate that the buildings were not full at 9 am - WTC workers come in later on many floors.

10K is probably in the ballpark - 50K is way too high.

>>Should I believe my ears? Did one of the analysts on Fox News just say that estimates of fatalities were in the range of 10,000 persons? If so, this dwarfs everything. How many died at Pearl Harbor? In Viet Nam? The Korean War? At Hiroshima or Nagasaki?

Pearl Harbor: 2,450 (US)

Vietnam: 58,400 dead (US)

Korea: ~ 32,000 (US)

Hiroshima/Nagasaki: ~ 50,000 each from blast; additional 200,000 each from injuries

accd to abcnews radio : 40,000 plus people work in the WTC. and at any given time 50,000 people or more can be in the two towers...so it is quite possible that up to 20-40 thousand people may have been murdered this morning
this is horrible... pray for all the victims..

There's also a subway station beneath the WTC. The PATH trains from NJ come in there. That was the height of rush hour.

I heard a fellow interviewed who worked on the 35th floor of one of the towers. If he got out in an orderly manner, it's possible most of the people on the floors below the point of impact escaped before the collapse.

Its possible the no. of dead are well below 10K.

Lets pray this is the case.

20 or 30,000 at least. How could you survive the collapse? Even if you weren't crushed, you couldn't breathe.

I took two of my sons to see Manhattan just a couple of weeks ago. We walked around the Towers and went to the Commodity Exchange. It could easily have happened then.

Who would do such a thing? Even for "70 virgins"?

FOX News is also saying they may not know a total fatality number until as early as the end of the week. We may not know how many innocent people died until on into the weekend.
