FreeRepublic Fundraiser -- Important -- FreeRepublic NEEDS Your Help! (Thread 44)
thread 43 ^ | 8/31 -- 9/5/2001 | Topaz & Ron C.

Posted on 09/11/2001 5:30:15 AM PDT by firewalk

It will be very easy for you to say, "Well, I will do something, some day. When I can afford it, I am going to." But would you let an old "grad" tell you one thing now? Giving is a habit. Get into the habit now, because you will never be able to afford to give and contribute, thus to repay the obligation you owe to those people who made this college possible, if you wait until you think you can afford it. Start now regardless of how small, and in the days to come when you are confronted with demands for many worthwhile causes and charities I think you will find that you will give dutifully to all the worthy ones. But here and there you will pick one or two that will be favorites, and you can do no better than to pick this, your Alma Mater, because you will not only be repaying your own personal obligations, you will be making your contribution to the very process which has made and continues to keep America great.
This democracy of ours which sometimes we've treated so lightly, is more than ever a comfortable cloak, so let us not tear it asunder, for no man knows once it is destroyed where or when he will find its protective warmth again. - Ronald Reagan

Help keep the dream alive!

Imagine if there was no Free Republic... gasp!

- No Sore Loserman protests to save an election...

- No Washington Times Ad pushing Congress to Impeach...

- No exposing of traitorous public officials...

- No media watchdog to ferret out the bias...

- No Breaking News...

For these reasons and a thousand others, please support Free Republic

While the large donations are exciting, the small ones may be more treasured ...... they may actually be sacrificial. So don't be reluctant to give if your donation can only be $5 or $10 ..... those are vital to the success of FR. And bumps help, too! :-) - posted by WillaJohns -

If all FReepers donate at least 10% of what they donated to FR or just a pint of blood, it will make a big difference for those injured in this tragedy.

We can and will do more, but this is a good first steep.

I don't like the idea of shutting down FR fundraising over this disaster, though of course the usual tone of FR fundraising threads is not appropriate at this time.

At my office in mid-town NYC this morning, I couldn't get through to any major news sites on the Internet (servers too busy at all of them), but I could get through to FR and it was an important source of information. This event will almost certainly cause a substantial increase in the number of registered and active Freepers, as well as lurkers, and will drive up the cost of running FR.

Those terrorists would be thrilled to learn that they'd shut down fundraising on a site like FR. Don't give them what they want. First take the time to give blood, give to the Red Cross, and pray, but then GIVE TO FREE REPUBLIC! This forum is a critical part of the resistance against anti-American terrorists.

It is now after midnight on the West Coast and we have observed a day of mourning, remembrance and prayer for the families who have suffered losses and injuries today. Give blood to the American Red Cross.

Give money to Free Republic. We operated at maximum bandwidth all day. This was a vital source of information for tens of thousands of people today. Imagine what life would be like without it. Unless you were watching ABC at the time, you never would have known that Peter Jennings had the gall to question the mental stability of President George W. Bush.

We have more and better coverage and commentary here at Free Republic about the life and death of Barbara Olsen, than they do at Fox News, the news network that employed her. We have a thread entirely devoted to reports from across the country and around the world, as Freepers give up-to-the-minute reports of reactions and conditions in their home towns.

Free Republic is like nothing else you'll see on the Internet, and it survives entirely on the generosity of people like you. Give your blood to the Red Cross, but give your money to Free Republic.

Thank you very much for the Joke. I needed that really bad after the hijackings and subsequent events of the last 24 hours. Also, I have quite a number of people who will really like your joke.

I'm sending a $100 check to FR today and, while you credit it to California, it's for Freepers who have lost jobs, or have sick kids, or are suffering other catastrophic family events and just don't have dollars to contribute.

Yesterday's horror brought home to me how much we need JimRob's site. I'm sure we all were numb as we watched the insanity that had been unleashed. But what a saving grace to be able to go online and be among like-minded people.

As thanks for JimRob's providing humongous bandwidth, and standing in for some folks who can't send money this time, here's $100. Folks, pay it forward when you can. God bless.

Thank you!

FreeRepublic was strained to the limits yesterday but somehow John & Jim managed to keep it going.

FreeRepublic had all it could do to keep up with the load yesterday. We didn't need to add the load of the fundraising activity to what was already happening.

Hopefully we can start picking things up a bit today. The need to raise the funds still exists and there will be much more news to keep up with in the weeks and months to come.

Talk Hell, Negotiate,Hell. This is war!

I agree with you BADJOE, they can't be allowed to get away with this. Still don't know where some of my friends are. Though three people I know are okay. Vermonter, I think FreeRepublic is going to need more bandwidth, if yesterday is any example.

Our family was spared. My nephew, who works in the second WTC tower which was hit, began to leave the building when he heard about the first strike. He felt the strike on the building he worked in while he was on the stairs.

He exited the building safely and was on the Staten Island Ferry when the first tower (his) collapsed.

He was also in the WTC when it was bombed and got out safely.

My major concern yesterday was in not being able to get through by phone to find out his status...... phone lines are still overloaded today, but we did get email yesterday that everyone was OK.

I also have a nephew-in-law who is a NYC detective in Brooklyn, who was not injured, but is in Manhattan now dealing with the aftermath.

My thanks are for sparing our family and prayers to all the other families affected.

Link to a 'very special' FreeRepublic donation and matching donation thread.

My prayers for all who are responding in so many areas of caregiving and need. And, to ALL of America who must fight through their losses; and against the fear, terror, and terrorists who instigated and assisted in this 'bombing' of Americans, both military and civilian.
