With his brother Jeb and Education Sec. Rod Paige, President Bush headed to Florida today to begin promoting his education agenda. He stopped by Justina Elementary School to take part in a 'leadership forum' where he called for a 'war on illiteracy' even as worries about the weak economy began to push them down the political agenda. Before he headed to the Sunshine State, the President met with Australian Prime Minister John Howard, who was presented with a bell from the USS Canberra, built in 1943, and named in honor of the Australian ship HMS Canberra. I know!! poor Spot! SHE is 12 you know! although she wants to be with W ALL the time (which I understand) so it probaby would break his heart to have to leave her behind.

I think Dubya looks really nice today. He and Jeb look like they are good friends, besides being brothers. That's the way my sister and I are. She's my best friend.

Guess what, everybody?! I got Laura Bush's autograph on my National Book Festival program Saturday!!!! I was so excited. I got to look her right in the eye. I completely froze when she looked up at me and said "You're welcome." Then I had to turn around and leave because I started to cry!! LOL
She's a very lovely person. She kept saying "I'm going to have to quit now" but then she would just keep signing programs! And she was great with the kids--talking to them, hugging them, posing with them. She's beautiful (pretty thin, too) and she sounds the same in person as on TV. I'll never forget it. And it was just a lucky coincidence that I was there when she was leaving the building. Our President keeps company with a lovely and gracious LADY.
