Braswell Subpoenaed To Appear Today
WASHINGTON -- A California businessman pardoned by former President Clinton for a fraud conviction has taken the fifth amendment during an appearance before a Senate committee.

A. Glenn Braswell refused to answer any questions put to him by Senate Aging Committee Chairman John Breaux. The hearing focused on how senior citizens are swindled by dietary supplements that can't and don't live up to their claims.

Braswell's former chief financial officer told the committee that Braswell's products are "flawed and laden with lies and deception." He said the items "could not possibly deliver what is promised in the advertising." Clinton granted 177 pardons and clemencies just before leaving office, but Braswell's was one of the most criticized.

The president's brother-in-law -- Hugh Rodham -- received $400,000 for helping Braswell and another man whose sentence was commuted. He later returned the money. Copyright 2001 by The Associated Press. All rights

Roadhouse (translation of Rodham) may have sent money back and may have documents to prove that he did. But anyone with a minimum knowledge of business (and familiarity with the criminal mind) knows that what's been paid out can be paid back -- through other 'covert' channels.

How can one take the fifth regarding offenses for which one has been pardoned? Since he has already been pardoned, he can't possibly incriminate himself. If we didn't have a critical shortage of testicles in the Senate, this would have been pointed out.

I suspect the terms of his Presidential Pardon included an automatic plea of Fifth Amendment whenever and wherever he was asked about ANY of this stuff.

I'd like to see Breaux get some members of the Gambino family before his committee and see what they have to say about Roger and his reprobate brother, since the Gambinos seemed to have gottten stiffed in the pardons department.

After watching some of these "Hearings" I've come to the conclusion not only are they are complete waste of time AND our tax money -- they are strictly for show. Most of the time the full panel is not even there and most of the dumb committee members don't have any original comments to make - they read everything from prepared text - probably written by a staff member. WHAT A BUNCH OF LOSERS THEY ALL ARE!!

The only great thing about this particular Hearing was that the Pardongate and Clinton's name were ONCE AGAIN in the news - YEAH!!
