Football Cannon Blast Kills Fan

TRENTON, Mo. -- A cannon fired to celebrate touchdowns by the Trenton High School football team went off accidentally, killing a man loading it onto a trailer.
Bud Meek, 41, died Friday after being hit in the chest at close range with the hot gases from the exploding black powder, Coroner Tom Eads said.
The accident happened just after players were cleared from the field because of approaching thunderstorms. Meek's son is a freshman member of the team.

Tragic. Rule No. 1 in handling firearms: Treat all guns as if they are loaded and will go off at any time. Same for cannons....
