Not 'til the euro brings them all into the same mess...then we have to hope the idiots don't start invading each other like they do every few decades. If that happens we'll have to save their a##es again, and Hanks and Spielberg can make movies and mini-series about it.

The lemmings in Denmark are next. Lots of grumbling regarding insane taxes and declining services.
If you have a serious, life threatening disease....for health services, you're better off going to Germany

Norway isn't part of the EU. They were smart enough to dodge that bullet.

My parents were born in Oslo, Norway, and I love Norway and things Norwegian. I am so glad they are beginning to arouse from their slumber regarding their taxes and socialism. Long live Norway and long live resistance to the governing parties. Wish the US had brains and guts enough to do that.

I understand that, but the point is euro-peon socialism will bring them all to the same level of misery.

As an American living in Europe, I witnessed the Europeans' hatred of Bush on his visit. Bush shut them when he voiced his support for the European 60,000 military force! Then Bush followed up with a plan to shift 27,000 US Military to the Pacific.
The Europeans will have to reach into their pocketbooks to bankroll their new military, to shoulder their own common defense. It is much too expensive for American to continue to bankroll support of an European Union which drags us into the World Court for Trade issues, badmouths our president and envy's our wealth.
The European system is imploding between a drop in worker's production when compared to America's workers productivity gains... and their health care/social system which requires an increase in the VAT Taxes every couple years.

You really didn't have to tell us that four times. That said, I agree.
To: zarf
Germany is socialized medicine also. Don't the socialist Democrats there have the lead now?
To: Marysecretary
Agree, Norway is a wonderful country. I look forward to going back. People seemed fine with socialist system 20 years ago because everyone was so darned prosperous they could afford to be generous. By making sure that "everyone had enough," they guaranteed a peaceful, law-abiding society. It worked back then. I actually went hunting around Oslo with my friend in search of a "slum." There were none.
Norwegians are much too sensible to allow themselves to be impoverished by questionable social programs. Like every other country in the world, Norway is faced with high levels of immigration. However, they regulate it strictly! Deport people who violate their regulations, and make sure that immigrants are all up and running within a few years as productive members of society. Education, jobs, etc. They're not about to allow their very fine standard of living and way of life to get bowled over by invading hoards.
But I do wonder about all that oil money. They're saving it for WHOSE future, exactly?
When I visited Norway, my hostess wondered how in the world the USA could handle such a polyglot culture.
To: zarf
Danes are getting upset about immigration, also.
To: DeaconBenjamin
Nothing like Scandinavians on immigration. When I'm over there, one minute they'll lecture me on how terribly America treats its minorities, and then launch into a tirade about the immigrants in their country. You can practically see the swastika armbands grow on their arms when they foam about foreigners. They use the n-word to describe anyone east of Poland and south of Switzerland.
