I could use a little help. A couple of years ago I remember reading an article in the WSJ in which they showed a 8th grade graduation test from the late 19th century. I've been looking for it for a while and no joy. Does anyone know where it or something similar can be found.
I thank you in advance.

I think you're talking about
this test. If so, be advised that it's an urban legend.

The WSJ piece was NOT the Salinas, KS, test. It's similarity, however, is somewhat suspicious. Completely different questions and even some different subject areas, but similar reason for publication and lineage. No author listed, piece is entitled "Sharpen Your Pencil, and Begin Now." It is ostensibly an admissions test for Jersey City High School, dated JUN 1885. First published 12 years prior to WSJ article by the Jersey City State College Faculty in the now defunct Hudson Dispatch, a Jersey City paper now out of business. I don't have the date published in WSJ, sorry.

Ayup, that's the one. Sorry about the mistaken city, Union City is the point of origin in the WSJ article, I mis-copied.
