Twenty-five plus protester gathered outside the Modesto office of Congressman Gary Condit (D-CA) under sunny warm skies on Saturday afternoon. Sitting in his wheelchair, carrying an American Flag, was our Commanding Officer, Jim Robinson.
Citizens from the surrounding area of Modesto carried signs and posters, shouting cheers and jeers to passing motorists, demanding the resignation or expulsion from Congress of the shameful and disgusting Congressman from the 18th Congressional District of California. Passing motorists responded with more and more honking horns and thumbs up signals than we have experienced in past protest.
As part of the days events, a letter to Congressman Condit demanding his resignation from office was circulated among the protesters and all present signed the letter. Also the message "Thank You Modesto Bee ...the People" was passed around for signatures. Both a copy of the letter and the Thank You card were then delivered to the offices of the Modesto Bee. The original letter was then delivered through the mail slot into the closed offices of Gary Condit.
The delivery of the thank you card to the Bee involved walking 4 blocks to the Bee office. As we walked through the streets, horns honked and motorists cheered our signs. The Bee offices are closed on the weekends, but the messages were delivered to a security guard at the building. A short walk back to Gary Condit's office with more honking horns and more cheers and jeers from those "wascally wadical pwotestews" completed the weekly protests.
Bye, Bye, Gary Condit, Goodbye; Saw you grievin' for Miss Levy; But your tears had blown dry; And that stonewall ploy is simply your alibi; Thinkin' this'll be the way that I lie... (from Charles Henrickson's song to the tune of American Pie)

"The Honorable" Gary Condit
Member of U.S.House of Representatives
920 16th Street
Modesto, California
Dear Mr. Condit:
If you think for one minute your retiring from Congress is going to be acceptable, you are sadly mistaken. By your own behaviour and actions, you have proven that you are not worthy to serve in the U.S. House of Representatives.
We demand your immediate resignation! There is no way we can tolerate you in the House for over a year more. You must leave NOW!
Our group - joined by concerned citizens from all over the country - is going to keep up the pressure until you are gone. We will be peacefully protesting here in Modesto at your district office every Saturday at 12 Noon (as we have been doing since July)until you are gone. We will keep pressuring the Congress, and it's not just our group alone. People from all over America join us in solidarity to demand you immediate resignation.
Please stop letting your family and staff do your dirty work for you. It's embarrassing and shows what a low life human being you really are. If you had one ounce of decency, you would not allow your children, parents and staff to try and defend your indefensible behaviour.
Be a man for a change. Resign now!
Sincerely,
Jim Robinson
