SEPTEMBER 08TH, 2001
With just three days until Primary Day, team Bloomberg isn't laughing about a 32-page collection of offensive musings allegedly made 10 years ago by the Republican mayoral candidate.
New York Magazine writer Michael Wolf uncovered the booklet, called "Portable Bloomberg-- the wit and wisdom of Michael Bloomberg," which was compiled by an employee for the media mogul's birthday 10 years ago.
The "Portable Bloomberg" quotes Bloomberg making fun of everything from Jews to marriage to the borough of Queens.
The alleged politically incorrect musings include:
He is also quoted as allegedly calling a competitor a "cokehead womanizing fag."
Bloomberg dismissed the remarks as irrelevant.
"Have I ever told jokes in my life? Of course -- who hasn't?" Bloomberg said. "Have I told the ones listed in the paper? No I don't remember any of those whatsoever. I can't go and resurrect what I said 10 years ago."
When pressed, the billionaire grew impatient.
"This is a book somebody put together for me as a joke for my birthday 10 years ago," he said. "The fact that you're focusing on it is so ridiculous."
Bloomberg's opponent, Herman Badillo, was quick to react, saying Friday that the quotes show Bloomberg is a "racist and a homophobe who should not be elected mayor."
"No one who speaks like this about women, Puerto Ricans and others should be elected," Badillo said.
Some Democrats agreed.
"Whether they're jokes or what, he winds up offending just about every citizen of New York," said Rep. Anthony Weiner. "He should apologize."
Others thought the latest flap was no big deal.
"I dont' think his comments will hurt him," said former Mayor Ed Koch. "It was all said in jest."
Said one New Yorker: "I think they're disgraceful, I think anyone who would say these things 10 years ago would say them today."
New York magazine plans to publish the quotebook in its next issue.
The word and thought police are everywhere and totally non-forgiving or forgetting. The Demos are speech fascists. Forgiveness only goes one direction for the Demos.
Forgive me for I have erred.
And the punchline is--Bloomberg's really a Dem. He changed his political affiliation so he could run mostly-unopposed in the primary here.
That's why I think that if Green or Ferrer were behind this, they would have waited until the first week in November to spring it. It won't do either of them much good before the primary (and practically-inevitable runoff).
Say what you will about him, but he's the only mayoral candidate willing to endorse Guiliani's legacy and openly says he'll continue it and build on it. That's good enough for me.
I agree. But there does not appear to be anything to forgive in the quotes above. They are neither particularly witty nor in any real sense offensive to anyone not in a state of compulsive denial of one or another aspect of human reality.
I would suggest that this "scandal" is one that reflects the delusions of New Yorkers. It would not hurt a candidate anywhere else, if these quotes were made public. (Well maybe an English purist, as they are grammatically and linguistically sloppy, but no one else.)

Oh, I don't know. "Womanizing fag" is one epithet I've never heard before, so I have to give it originality points. LOL. But you're right, the result would be to confuse, rather than offend.
Well, I suppose that the Womanizing fag would be offended--he might prefer "bisexual" or "gay experimenter," but do you think he even votes?
It might refer to spending too much time with fag hags.
Um, I can't be.

In the Democrat Party, anything is possible. Who would have thought you could be a paederast and a Boy Scout Troop leader? Who would have thought you could run for president of the United States of America and have Communist China fund your campaign ? Who would have thought you could be guilty of vehicular manslaughter (at best) or run a teenage homosexual prostitution ring out of your townhouse and be reelected year after year?
Democrats are on the vanguard of societal evolution.
By the way, Bloomberg is a Democrat. His FEC donations show that rather clearly. FOX news reported tonight that Green will probably win the primary because Jews vote in primaries and blacks and Puerto Ricans do not.
Good, I hope Green wins. Let NYC wallow in its own filth. New Yorkers didn't learn anything the last time they elected a left wing freak. Perhaps this time they will.
Sorry for the mix-up...
