MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) -- State Supreme Court Chief Justice Roy Moore has denied a request from an atheists group to put a statue of the organization's symbol in the lobby of the state judicial building.
American Atheists Inc. is the latest group to try to place a statue in the building since Moore had a monument to the Ten Commandments quietly moved into the building in August.

SCREEECH!!! First Amendment!!! Uhhhh, separation of church and state!!! Yeah! Ummmmm - endorsement of religion! Yeah, that's it! (and the hysterics will continue ad naseum).
Rep. Alvin Holmes (D), attempted to place a placard or something similiar next to the Ten Commandments display. The display contained the words of one of MLK's speeches, "I have a dream", I think it was. I'm not a student of MLK, therefore I don't recognize the text.
In any event, the display was poorly constructed, it appeared to be a poster board of grade school quality and even in the words of Mr. Holmes, was a "temporary" monument.
Moore did not meet with the delegation that was attempting to place it and entry to the judicial building was prevented by the capitol police.
There was a slight backlash against Holmes after he is alleged to have stated to the effect that King's words were given by God, therefore they had attained the same level as the word of God, or some such crap. I guess that MLK is now equated with Moses, at least in the mind of Rep. Alvin Holmes (D).
As a result of that incident, there are now many groups that are attempting to get their particular manifesto, credo, or wacked out "memorial" placed next to Moores Ten Commandment display.
Holmes has not given up and will most certainly use the situation to further his own political goals, whatever they may be.
In fairness, it should be made known that Moore did sneak the Ten Commandment display into the building in the "dead of night", so to speak. However, legally speaking, Moore is the "custodian" of the building, and as such, has only himself to answer to as far as what is or is not displayed in the building.
His actions are simply a continuation of the platform that got him elected to the position of Chief Justice, so he is not really breaking new ground here.
The issue is particularly emotional on a local level. I just happened to be in Montgomery on the day the incident occurred and did not realize why the capitol grounds were in such a turmoil. The press was everywhere and I initially attributed it to the fact that it was the first day of a special legislative session.
But if anyone knows anything about the Alabama Legislature, then one knows that bunch of bozos won't accomplish anything, anyway. When one finds media attention given to the Alabama Legislature, it is usually because someone has peed in a jug behind the podium, or one of them has been found to have carried a several million dollar check around in his pocket while attempting to influence a municipality to purchase land from one his friends at an inflated price, using public funds in the form of the check.
Be that as it may, I suspect that Chief Justice Moore will prevail in his attempts to display the Ten Commandments in the rotunda of the Judicial Building, to the exclusion of all the wacko nut job silliness that has attempted to thus far have them removed and replaced with their particular cause.
I think the Unabomber has gotten in line to have his manifesto placed in the building, also. Rumor has it that PETA is attemping to put a non-meat meat loaf recipe on the wall, too.
Will it ever end?
Dang fool atheists.
Dang fool atheists.
Yeah, what would the monument say:"We believe there is no God". Sounds like one of the most profoundly metaphysical statements I ever heard.
Christian love in action.
I can not figure out what the point is in having an atheist organization.
If an individual does not believe in something, be it God, that the Earth is round, the Loch Ness Monster or the Easter Bunny, why spend precious time arguing with believers over something that supposedly does not exist? Why not go to the beach, read a good book, donate time to charity, do some good or have some fun.
The only reason that I can come up with is that these people enjoy the 15 minutes of fame that they get with these pranks.
I think I'll let the Bible speak for its self on that point
Psa 14:1The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God...
How could atheist actions, before mentioned by us, not be considered foolish?
Why? What the hell for?
Ahem, All American. Didn't Moses bring the Ten Commandments down from the holy mountain after they were inscribed in stone tablets by the hand of God? Don't you think you oughta apologize to all Jewish FReepers for calling them "Christian" writings?
