NUCLEAR NON-PROLIFERATION: WE TRADED IT FOR MISSILE DEFENSE?

3. NUCLEAR NON-PROLIFERATION: WE TRADED IT FOR MISSILE DEFENSE?

The imperative of American defense policy for half-a-century has been to limit the spread of nuclear weapons,

but we have now turned our back on the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty,

and about to abandoned (sic) the ABM treaty, and the administration is reassuring China that if they'll soften opposition to NMD,

we'll be happy to share test results and we won't mind if they build a bigger missile fleet and resume testing.

A lot of people were opposed to marching in staight lines in bright colors as well. Adapt or die!

Everyone who opposes this needs a combat tour where there is "incoming." It is a helpless feeling. Imagine if there is a message that X country has launched a missile at Los Angeles or NYC and there is no response except massive retaliation.

What was really dangerous was what X-42 let slip out the door!
The stuff this guy mentions may or may not have helped "safety," IMO it hurt it. Here are some links:

Keeping nuclear missiles out of the hands of people who don't like us is impossible. The entire history of weapons proves that eventually everyone gets them. Can you imagine trying to keep nations from knowing how to make metal swords? Yet metalurgy was at least as complex to primitive man as missiles are today.

No nation could keep swords to them selves. That is why they needed shields.

The fact is sooner rather than later lots of bad guys are going to have missiles and nukes. It is no more possible to keep bad boy nations from getting missiles, than it is to keep robbers from getting guns. The only possible way to survive is with a defense against them.

Computers are a very easy to understand example. In 1975 a computer as powerful as a current PC was so high tech and so expensive and so secret that only the United States had them.Today anyone with a thousand bucks can have one.

On a scale of nations we are only a few years from the samething happening for nations and nuclear missiles. If we fail to protect ourselves we will die in a nuclear attack for which we have no defense.

That is so obvious that even a liberal should be able to understand it.

And what good is a missle defense if our enemies don't use missles to attack us? Which they won't, if we have a missle defense.

They'll use Ryder trucks.

Wow, Common that was a great post. You need to post that message wherever you can out there in sheeple land.

Common, your posts are quite thoughtful this evening. (I also liked the point of evolution and homosexuality on the other thread.)

The liberals like to have "professor" camoflage the titles of their propagandists.

Well, good. What, would it disappoint you for our enemies not to attack us? I don't get it.

This is like saying that you shouldn't install a home alarm system because if you do, no one's going to rob you, so "what good is it"?. But having no one rob you is a good thing, not a bad thing, right?

They'll use Ryder trucks.

Certainly, we should make every effort to defend against Attack By Ryder Truck as well. Right?

I just don't understand your objections to attempting to defend ourselves from incoming missiles. Care to explain?

The sad part is that this physics "professor" is so illiterate. Apparently he does not know how to form sentences. His little rant was very difficult to read because of this. It reads as if it is a one-paragraph book report written by a 7-year-old.

I could go on smashing this guy to pieces, but it's just rather depressing.

Page 1 of yesterday's Wall Street Journal has Sec. Rumsfeld denying that the US has given the "green light" to China on weapons production. As if we have a say in the matter, regardless . . . .

I am more worried about the smuggled-in nukes than a launched icbm. We will burn anyone who'd do that.
