All across America, college communications departments and schools of journalism are in a tizzy over an advertisement placed in campus newspapers by David Horowitz. Horowitz is a former leftist radical from the sixties who used to roam America’s college campuses causing fits for the Left. Now he has a career causing the Left on college campuses to throw fits.
Recently he paid for print ads stating ten reasons why it is not only wrong but racist to spend Americans’ tax dollars paying reparations for slavery. One wouldn’t think that would cause an outburst anywhere. It would be ludicrous to argue that there could be some justice in using tax dollars for reparations. First of all, no former slaves are alive today, though there could be some octogenarians alive in America whose parents were born just before the Emancipation Proclamation. Furthermore, reparations would have to be paid by former slave owners. They are all dead.
It certainly would not do to have the descendants of anybody pay for the sins of the dead, but it would be absurd to suggest that descendants of Northerners pay. It would be equally absurd to suggest that the descendants of American immigrants who reached American soil after 1865 should pay. And, of course, it wouldn’t do to have the descendants of slaves pay. (There are millions and millions of African-Americans who pay taxes. Liberals seem to forget this.) Horowitz also pointed out that paying reparations would be racist because they are demanded and would be paid soley on the basis of skin color.
However, I bet Horowitz is not really that concerned about reparations--a pet cause of Professor Ogletree of Harvard, Al Sharpton, and others. What he cares about is ideological totalitarianism by the Left on America’s college campuses. The only reason he ran the ads in college papers across the country was to smoke out the intolerant liberals. The intolerant liberals at these colleges were too stupid to see the trap and walked right into it. If I were the parent of a student at one of these schools, I would be more upset that the faculty responsible for this comedy are so stupid, and less concerned that they are liberals who want to stamp out free speech at my child’s school. Because, let me tell you--they may think they are controlling what these kids think and say, but they are not!
How stupid can they be? They gave Horowitz nationwide publicity, not to make an argument against reparations, a topic which nobody cares about, but for his crusade to embarrass liberals who are tyrants of political thought. For a few bucks paid to the campus paper, he exposed them for intolerant politically correct fools. How about, instead of reparations, we call for a refund for this semester’s tuition.
Jeff, this is one of those unanswerable questions. How stupid can stupid be?
Hear, hear. And that's why an all out assault on our second amendment rights is the most likely thing to trigger Civil War II...even more so than a verdict in favor of reparations. I truly believe that trying to disarm us will be the final straw, even more so than a massive theft.
I would disagree that they were too stupid to see what was about to befall them, they were too, ARROGANT to see the trap.
In their pus-filled elitists minds, they can't possible be wrong, Horowitz's went over to the evil side, traitors can't be right.
The instrument has yet been invented that can measure that.
