Who Are The Moderators & What Can they Do?

As far as I can see, the Moderator team has been doing an excellent job.

I would suggest the Moderators take a more active role in eliminating the abuse and foul language. FR has been called the "Dodge City of the Internet", but I see no need to keep about 95% of the flaming, bad language and plain old abuse that crops up from time to time.

In fact, anonymity is so closely guarded that most do not even know who the other moderators are, and will not learn that information in the process of doing their assigned tasks. There are only three people who know who all are, Jim Robinson, John Robinson and myself.

Oh great! Another secret society is born. What do you guys call your group "Skull and Edit"? "Illuminedit"? "New Edit Order"? "TriLateralEdit"?

Hmm...I suppose this is a bit better than the self imposed monitors of the prior ages like...Don Morgan, Mojo, Landshark, Aligryl,Navigator etc. etc. etc...

I swear we are going to see threads.....trying to guess the Moderators...

I've already taken this thread and ran it through a piece of software, which generates a unique signature from the punctuation, style, and grammar of the post (NSA surplus). The software closely matched on a poster who was banned several weeks. Go figure :)

You folks do a fine job. Look at Lucianne.com...if 1/10th of the things I've read about that site are true, they truly demonstrate how not to moderate. Or NewsMax...I used to post their heavily, but I quit and deleted that site from my book marks. Why? The moderators broke the site's rules for their buddies : Antigay posts got nuked quickly, but antiIsrael posts were ignored. A certain poster with the initials SP got caught on another site , explaining how everyone at NewsMax was a racist , and how she had started threads to get quotes for a magazine article. This post got copied over to the NewsMax forum, a firestorm broke out, and a moderator locked the threads .Later, that same moderator was caught on CapitolBlue laughing at the angry NewsMax posters with SP herself. Worst of all, trolls and disruptors run wild on NewsMax, and nothing is done about them in the name of "freedom of speech", despite the obvious favoritism in enforcing Newsmax site rules!

Seeing how other conservative/liberatarian sites work(or not work) really makes one realize what a fine job the folks who keep Free Republic running smoothly do. This is the best site on the web, bar none.
