Hey cool. This dude is alright! He supported McCain in the primary for some odd reason, but he's a damn fine guy otherwise. When he was in congress he cosponsored MANY of Ron Paul's bills. Run Matt Run!!

Matt is very conservative - and to my liking. He was one of the few who actually kept his pledge to limit his terms in congress to a total of three two-year terms, even though he was in a very "safe" Republican district. Most of the others who had made the same pledge created excuses to ignore their commitments when the time actually came.

He never "sold out" in Congress - and at times found himself ostracized by Newt when Newt was trying to be "moderate."

Go Matt!

The leading democratic candidate (although there is more than a year to go) is a liberal - allegedly (and never denied to be) a lesbian who is the state's Attorney General.

Hubby and I added our names to Salmon's growing list of supporters! Met him a couple years ago at a tax reform meeting - this guy is serious about cutting taxes.

Thank you for posting this. Several years ago I read and article in "Human Events" about Matt where he stated that he was disapppointed about his realization that change would NOT come from Washington. That's when he put forth the idea that as governor, he could better fight the Feds for our rights and against the limitations of our freedoms.

My son was in the Army at the time, living in Alexandria, Va. So on one of my visits to y son, I stopped by Matt's office and told him I was looking forward to working for him when he ran for Governor. He was very gracious and appreciative.

I am THRILLED. Matt will be a beacon for the other 49. Let's work hard and pray hard and get Matt in.

let's not make her sexuality an issue. we've seen what is happening in the Tempe recall election when even a few supporters bring it up. the press will beat the homophobia issue like a drum and turn off the mushy middle soccer-moms. Napolitareno must not win in 2002. Matt is clearly the best candidate to beat her.

Had to be wednesday. That's meeting hell day for me (ahh the joy of management). Maybe next time he stumps down here he can come to "commerce corner" (that's what I call where I work at Broadway and Rosemont, lots of businesses right around here, and the front of the builing I'm in (the big one next to target) has a great fountain, very popular commercial standup spot through the years). Meeting day or not I could definitely make it then, just a ride down the elevator. Lots of good conservatives in the area too (three real estate agencies and two investment banks in the building).

The Pima County Republican Club has meetings every Tuesday at the Viscount in the atrium. I'll send you the list of speakers, so you can drop in at lunchtime (12 noon) to catch a program if you find it interesting.

I agree; we have some good Republicans in AZ who are homosexual. That is NOT an issue. There's a Dem who's out-polling her at the moment; unfortunately, I can't think of his name.

Definitely. Viscount is where I got married. The atrium rocks if you want a natural setting for your ceremony but don't want to deal with Tucson's weather. Quick walk from work.

Thanks, Annie, for the ping.

Met Matt about six weeks ago at a Precinct Committemen's meeting. He actually goes to those things! He talks to his constituents. I'm on his volunteer list. He told us that night that he was going to "put his hat into the ring," but I wasn't going to say anything until he did. He'd be a great governor.

Dittomom, at which appearance will you be appearing?

Does he have a good chance of winning the primary and/or general election, or will this Salmon be swimming upstream?

Salmon has a VERY good chance of winning. His track record in Arizona is excellent. He is lining up support from alot of well known Republicans here. Other Republicans who are considering running don't have the "gravitas" IMHO. Democrats here in AZ are still weak. Although their candidate, State AG, Janet Napolitano (frequently referred to as Janet Napoli-RENO), is popular, there are still more registered Republicans in this state than Democrats and she's gonna have an uphill fight.
