Democratic Socialist Nithya Raman was spotted for the first time since winning the race for Los Angeles mayor, making her the first mayoral challenger to defeat an incumbent since 2005.
Raman made her way from her home to a combined yoga studio and workspace in downtown LA.
“Los Angeles, I’m deeply honored to be your next mayor,” Raman said in a video statement. “Thank you to the thousands of people who knocked on doors, sent texts, made phone calls, convinced their neighbors to believe in the promise of this big, beautiful, joyful city that we get to call home.

When Spencer Pratt appeared to have been cheated out of his Primary Victory, that was one of the biggest disappointments of this year to me. It was almost as though somebody had died. I don’t even live in LA. I’m north, in the Bay Area, but any Mayor of LA has a great deal of influence throughout this state. Now? Socialists to the left of me, Socialists to the right, here I am.
The 2028 Olympic Games will be a colossal Charlie Foxtrot.
