Democrat who withdrew from Texas House race wins despite felony convictions

The Texas midterm elections have wrapped up, but questions about one race in Tarrant County are heating up.

A candidate suspended her campaign and still won, but that's not the most controversial part.

"Well, there has been an issue, an occurrence with House District 93," Tarrant County Democratic Party Executive Director Reyne Telles said.

Telles said the issue centers on Ericka Lomick, the Democratic candidate. Unofficial results show she beat Republican Alan Blaylock, a former Fort Worth City Council member, by one percentage point.

The problem? Lomick withdrew from the race in late September when questions about her eligibility to serve were raised. Federal court documents obtained by CBS News Texas show that in 2011, Lomick was convicted of three felonies in North Carolina for mortgage fraud, bank fraud, and conspiracy to commit money laundering. Records show she was sentenced to 63 months in prison.

"We are working closely with our Tarrant County Democratic Party legal counsel in step with the Texas Democratic Party lawyers, along with the candidate and her team, as well as Tarrant County elections and the Secretary of State's office, to best interpret the law and determine the best path forward for voters," Telles said.

"The law in Texas is pretty clear that anyone who has been convicted of a felony cannot serve in public office unless they were pardoned," Texas trial lawyer Ruben Garcia said.

The article goes on to say a special election will now have to happen.

Why? I don't know. At least the felon had the decency to withdraw before the election, so what's the point of having a do-over?

Criminal Record

In January 2011, Lomick (then known as Ericka L. Flood) pleaded guilty in North Carolina to federal charges including mortgage fraud, bank fraud, and money laundering, receiving a 63-month prison sentence.

So the candidate only “suspended” the campaign - they did not actually withdraw the race.

Why? I don't know.

She withdrew after her felony record came to light because it was pointed out that her felony record makes her legally ineligible to serve as a state representative under the Texas Constitution.

I just hope that the Republicans come up with a better candidate than the one that just lost to an ineligible felon who had already withdrawn.

Like it matters šŸ˜‚

“Convicted Felon” is a resume enhancer for a Democrat Politician šŸ˜‰

So... the Democrats pre-printed their “dump” ballots prior to the withdrawal?

Leave it to SeeBS. Say one thing in the headline and something different in the article.

Since her felony convictions for mortgage fraud, bank fraud, and conspiracy to commit money laundering were federal, not state, she will have to wait for another democrat to be elected President to get a pardon.

Too bad she didn’t get a pardon from the autopen when she had the chance.

At this point I’m pretty sure there was widescale fraud across the nation. No way did democrats turnout in numbers to match their last Presidential election.

Well, Paxton was so bad because of adultery (and, that is bad). However, I guess felons are better. The Democrat Party is not only the party of all types of sexual perversion, but of felons as well. Criminal Party.

This pretty much sums up the 2026 elections.

How can this even be possible?

Ditto for Maine. No matter what we think of Susan Collins, she seems to have been steadfast for her constituents for many years. Then she’s ousted by a retard having children with his cousin. And that’s OK by Mainers. Makes no sense. Tuesday made no sense.

I’m finding it odd that the left won all these elections in sweeping fashion. Heck, Biden was far worse than Trump but held up in the midterms with 19% inflation.

I’m not one of those people complaining about ā€œa cheatā€ but this seems like this was a national steal.

Something seems so far off ….to the point of ā€œthe chance are very slim for this to happenā€.

Democrats registered 20 million ā€œnew votersā€ with no proof of citizenship in the past two years to rig midterms
The GOP establishment swamp let them do it in a massive quid-pro-quo

Republicans need to start running as democrats in these jurisdictions.

Democrats did it for years in Texas. Vote for the Republican speaker and leaders.

Open the borders.

Invite the world in.

Register them.

Stop the Save America Act

Create 20 million vote.

Then blame Trump.

The only question I have is did they fill out their ballots or did somebody else do it using their registration.

it screams straight ticket voting to me.

I never know who 90% of the candidates I vote for are. Pages and pages of candidates, and I simply vote for the Republican.
