The Iran war, gas prices and Trump’s miscalculations led to one of the most decisive repudiations of an American president
In mid-February, one of President Trump’s economic advisers arrived at the Oval Office with charts showing how the administration’s policies might be making America great again.
Household income was up, particularly among low-income Americans. Retirement accounts were soaring. And the nation’s economic growth was even better than projected.
“This is great stuff,” said Trump. He had completed his first year back in office, and his power seemed limitless. The president had complete control of Congress, U.S. business leaders were following his lead and the Democratic Party was in disarray.
Within days, Trump made a decision that would change everything.
After campaigning on ending foreign wars, Trump wagered on one of his own, triggering an open-ended conflict that has seen the deaths of more than 20 U.S. servicemembers, cost U.S. taxpayers more than $47 billion, and pushed up the cost of everything from freight to fertilizer.
On Tuesday, Republicans suffered losses that amounted to one of the most decisive repudiations of a president in modern history. It was likely a direct result of Trump’s decision to go to war in Iran, sending gas prices up 40%, leaving many of his most loyal supporters disillusioned and effectively drawing a curtain on the Trump age.
Conservative commentator Matt Walsh described the war as “the greatest political blunder in the last two decades,” and a betrayal of Trump’s America First movement. “We’re going to have to find a new leader because Trump abandoned...”

I know how he lost.
Bad policies and bad candidates cost him the election.
“effectively drawing a curtain on the Trump age”
That’s the millionth time they’ve counted him down and out...
WSJ is quick to dismiss voter fraud.
The problem with Trump was he wanted a Nobel peace prize so badly. That is the reason we went to Iran. I’ve never seen anybody want something as badly as him wanting that Nobel prize prize.
Bad candidates and the feckless hack RINOs in the House and Senate are to blame. 😤
When something is stolen, it is, in most cases, a loss.
But not when you catch the thieves.
I wasn’t aware it was Congress that imposed tariffs and started a war in Iraq, both of which sent prices higher.
With all due respect, and I DO respect you, I think many Americans do not realize how badly Iran wanted to use nuclear weapons against us. Of course, the lamestream media would never tell Americans the real truth, and Americans amazingly STILL trust the lamestream media, even after Covid, even after finding out that Biden was mentally incompetent.
The Nobel Peace Prize committee is as corrupt as they come. If you didn’t know that before Obama “won” his, before doing ANYTHING but being the first half black/half white elected to the US Presidency, then it should’ve been apparent then.
Donald Trump didn’t want that Peace Prize. It is meaningless. It’s like a participation trophy for a 5 year old.
He lost, because historically, in the mid-term elections, the party holding the White House loses both Houses of Congress. In Trump’s mid-terms during his first term, Republicans lost the House, but kept the Senate, something that rarely happens.
He didn’t finish the job in Iran. He looked weak, misleading. A finished job in Iran would have made him a hero in the US, and made him feared and respected abroad. Energy prices would have plummeted, and inflation under control.
Trump was going to have a tough midterm even if he was perfect on policy & executive decisions. Instead he kept gambling as a “foreign affairs” President, who was going to make the “world right” by his actions.
The current hubris and stupidity of Trump & his administration just received a message from the voters.
Not a pleasant one, but that’s the political reality.
If by "us", you are referring to the United States, I don't believe there is any evidence to support that outlandish fairytale, and since the use of a single nuclear weapon against the United States by Iran would bring about the end of that country, I really wouldn't worry about it.
Trump Endorses Netanyahu Days Before Israeli Election as Iran War Tests Friendship
With days to go before a crucial general election in Israel, Netanyahu received a last-minute endorsement for re-election on Sunday from the man he suckered into bombing Iran ......Donald Trump.
TRIUMP: “Bibi Netanyahu has been a Great Warrior Prime Minister, and an even greater Partner for Peace in combatting the Islamic Republic of Iran,” Trump posted on Truth Social Sunday. “Please let this Letter serve to represent my Complete and Total Endorsement of Bibi Netanyahu in his upcoming Race for Re-Election as Prime Minister of Israel.”
It was a ringing, albeit late, recommendation for someone Trump hasn’t seen eye-to-eye with in recent months over how Netanyahu’s government has navigated the Middle East conflict. Trump said in his post that, if Israel were to have “the wrong Leader, which would be anyone other than Bibi,” the U.S. would be left alone to face the Iran threat. The U.S. and Israel jointly struck Iran in late February, kickstarting a conflict that has not only upended global markets but also thrust Middle Eastern regional security into turmoil.
“Bibi Netanyahu has been Strong, Brave, and Brilliant in the face of tremendous opposition, including that coming from even Israel, itself,” Trump added, in apparent reference to Netanyahu’s domestic challenges, including a corruption trial, some of which the U.S. President has previously tried to influence. “Despite all of that, he has endured and, in fact, he has thrived!”
Trump’s endorsement comes just before Israelis head to the polling booths on Oct. 27. Public disillusionment with Netanyahu was among several factors that led to the formation of the Yashar! (“Straight!”) Party, whose founder, former Israel Defense Forces Chief of Staff Gadi Eisenkot, is challenging Netanyahu for the premiership. Eisenkot’s son and nephews were killed in the war in the Gaza Strip.
It’s unclear how big of an electoral boost Netanyahu will get from Trump’s endorsement. An opinion poll from nonprofit The Jewish People Policy Institute in Jerusalem released this month shows that most Israelis still see Trump as a great friend of Israel. A separate opinion poll from JPPI, however, shows their trust in him has eroded.
UPDATE: Netanyahu didnt just lose the election he failed catastrophically.
This is a lot more severe than the usual. I live in Ohio...it completely flipped from Red to Blue. My ballot was 2 pages with very many candidates running for many positions. Only one Republican won.
The Texas and South Carolina senate races clearly showed a poor choice of Republican candidates.
The United States does not have the means to "finish the job", the frequently repeated claim that we do is made by children or liars.
What a disgrace.
The difference is Democrats don’t care if a candidate is a poor choice, they pull the lever for them anyway.
But we have our “principles”, don’cha know!
