US President Donald Trump has been consulting with advisers on whether to keep US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth in his current role following the Republicans' losses in Tuesday's election, CBS News reported on Wednesday, citing multiple sources.

DeSantis floated as possible replacement

One name being floated as a possible replacement for Hegseth is GOP Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, one source told CBS.

DeSantis could potentially go through Senate confirmation in the lame-duck period and then take the post when his term expires on January 5.

No freaking way! We’ll lose a great governor. DeSantis should tell Trump to bark up another tree.

I don’t think DeSantis is dumb enough to take that job if offered. It would tie his hands in terms of preparing for 2028, while also tying him to a brand that voters just rejected.

CBS News reported on Wednesday, citing multiple sources.

Oh? Did SeeBS cite any of those sources? Or is this the usual hearsay upon hearsay upon hearsay?

Agreed—I would not advise anyone to take any job with the administration at this point.

The Democrats will be doing full body cavity searches on anyone they can find connected to the administration.

That includes making up wacko charges and using the old media as their propaganda arm.

Life is way too short to deal with that insanity.

Hegseth has performed remarkably, imo.

If Trump is actively thinking about this. Get Lieutenant Colonel Allen West in there. Not sure if he’s qualified, but he’s probably just as qualified as Hegseth was.

LOL!! What experience as a military lawyer, does DeSantis have when it comes to running the War Department? His job as a lawyer in Iraq from 2007 to 2008 included instructing the troops in the rules of engagement, as well as advising them, how not to offend the enemy on the battlefield, and get themselves in trouble.

DeSantis is too smart to board a sinking ship, especially when the captain and first mate want to make him the fall guy for their own failures.

“Trump weighs firing Hegseth after midterm losses”. Hegseth didn’t have much to do with your party getting smoked last night, no, I think you did when you told the American people ‘I don’t care about high fuel prices’.

"Hegseth has performed remarkably, imo."

I highly doubt that President Trump is planning on getting rid of Hegseth. He's done everything President Trump has asked of him, especially getting our military forces back in order. Hegseth had nothing to do with the mid-term losses. The media would like you to think he did, but the truth of the matter is that during mid-terms, the party in control of the White House, usually loses both Houses of Congress. In the mid-terms during Trump's first term, we lost the House, but held the Senate, something that doesn't usually happen. RATS controlled the House with Tip O'Neill as Speaker, during all 8 years of Reagan's two terms.
