The Dallas Morning News published a glowing opinion piece praising Texas Democrat gubernatorial candidate Gina Hinojosa. The author was billed as a “longtime Republican” and former staffer for Republican lawmakers.
There was just one problem: the author was on Hinojosa’s payroll.

It’s an illegal political contribution-in-kind and everyone involved needs to be criminally charged for it.
I didn’t know the DMN was still around.
I cancelled my subscription almost 20 years ago. They kept throwing their paper in my yard like I would subscribe again. I had to threaten to turn them in for littering before they stopped.
Most people on this forum know that my Tagline is still accurate.
Accurate, but kind and polite. I like it.

My wife is the “media” person for a decent sized hospital system. She writes “Op-eds” like this four or five times a year. Then they “buy the space” as a guest editorial. They are usually marked as such, but its not always obvious.
This is a tactic that is pretty common.
Here’s another example: on Faux News this morning.

I am surprised that the Republican Party has not bought full pages countering their editorial lies, item by item. A sizable percentage of the population never, ever hears the truth.
Why should the Republicans waste money on a publication which has 38,000 readers on its print version and 63,000 on its digital version? Dallas County has 2.7 million residents; Collin County has 1.3 million residents; Denton County has 1.1 million residents. In 1996, the Dallas Morning News had an average circulation of over 500,000 with a far smaller population base (minimal online presence at the time). At most, an ad in the newspaper, including its online version would reach 2%, maybe 4% if you exclude children and include spouses, of the population of the Dallas metropolitan area.
