State representative Anne Hughes was arrested on Friday after several stolen political signs were located on property owned by Hughes, according to police.
The Easton police department received a complaint from the Darrell Harris campaign staff that several political signs were stolen from the side of the road in the area of Route 59 and Judd Road.
After further investigation, police say that an AirTag tracker showed that at least one of the signs was located on property owned by Hughes.
A follow-up investigation was conducted by police, which led to Hughes returning several signs, including the sign with the AirTag tracker.
Police found probable cause to issue Hughes a misdemeanor summons for sixth-degree larceny.
Hughes posted an apology to Facebook saying,
"Yesterday I removed lawn signs that shouldn’t have been on public property. I apologize for removing them rather than contacting the police or my opponent’s campaign to remove them, and I take full responsibility and accountability for my actions. Campaigns should be about issues and differences of ideas, not yard signs. I apologize for the distraction, and am committed to having civil discourse with my opponent for the duration of this campaign season."

Nothing will happen. It’s Connecticut, where justice was abandoned a long time.
Signs are stolen and defaced all the time.
The biggest target were always Trump signs.
Stealing and defacing them is illegal!
Could be even felony!
But if somebody places sing on private property, the owner is free to remove them.
So I am somewhat puzzled. I have no idea what CT law is, but she surely had right to remove them from her own property.
Or they were not on her property?

I don’t it was necessary to post that, since WE ALREADY KNEW!! It is ALWAYS Democrats who do these thing. I’ve NEVER heard of a GOP doing such a thing, or key cars, etc.
They are a demonic bunch, and I mean that literally. No sense of right and wrong. No respect for other people’s property or thoughts.
Connecticut hasn’t been the same since the Tates and Campbells left the scene.

That makes sense, although that does not say too much about her intelligence!
In our area, people stole Trump signs and tossed them over some wall to somebody’s property.
The property owner complained eventually, but they were hidden from the people.
If this person was a Republican it have been prominently noted in the article. Since there is no mention of a political party I have to assume the culprit is a Democrat.

As she said the signs she took were on public property and she took them to her property. I’ve worked campaigns in Connecticut and signs are placed on public property all the time. Ocassionally, (very rarely) the police will remove them but only for traffic issues.
But you can’t get any of these campaigns to actually take down their own sign trash after the elections.

She's running for re-election in the Easton, Weston and Redding. Her opponent is a Black Republican and she is a self described PROGRESSIVE. I thought PROGRESSIVES would like blacks to think on their own!! 🤣

Most signs are on public property.
Often, it is hard to know, if the street corner is public or private. So signs are placed where they should not be and the owners have the right to remove them, usually in bipartisan fashion.
However there are people who destroy, steal and deface signs properly placed, in partisan fashion.
This is illegal, and in theory it could get you to jail!
