A Travis County judge has sentenced a 36-year-old man to probation after finding him guilty of manslaughter in the death of Killeen Fire Department Capt. Marvin Taylor III, who was killed in May 2025 when a speeding Dodge Durango slammed into his vehicle in Austin. Rodney Earl Bremby II will serve 10 years of straight probation, along with 403 hours of community service and $535 in fees.

Bremby pleaded guilty to a second-degree felony charge and was found guilty of manslaughter, according to The Killeen Daily Herald. Court records cited by the outlet show the plea was entered in Travis County’s 450th Judicial District Court on Aug. 24. He had originally faced a second-degree felony charge of intoxication manslaughter with a vehicle.

Taylor, off duty at the time, had just left an Austin hospital after the birth of his fifth child and was on his way to pick up his other children to bring them to meet the new baby, per the Herald’s reporting. He was the only occupant of his Toyota Sienna when Bremby’s Dodge struck his vehicle.

According to an arrest affidavit detailed by kdhnews.com, an Austin police officer was on patrol around 1:05 a.m. approaching a red light at East Koenig Lane and Airport Boulevard when he saw a black Dodge Durango pass on the right in the center lane at high speed. The Durango then struck the rear driver side of Taylor’s blue Toyota Sienna. East Koenig Lane carries a 45 mph speed limit.

Police said Bremby’s Dodge was traveling 103 mph at the moment of impact and had been going 93 mph five seconds earlier, the affidavit states. The officer’s in-car camera captured video of the collision.

A travesty of justice. The judge should be removed from office.

Texas has always been lenient on drunk drivers.

We know for sure that the murderer is black and the victim, a father of five, is white. Interestingly, the crooked judge is not named in any of the story’s coverage.

I believe the family should be able to take matters into their own hands.

I believe it’s this guy.

If so, he should be held accountable. His fat ass needs to be removed from office.

5 children and a wife, prayers for them. this seems a huge wrong to have the guilty guy only get probation. I hope they are able to file some other legal way to get some real justice.

If this is the judge, it’s obvious that he is black. And so he didn’t want to convict a homeboy, eh? Who left 5 children orphans? What a travesty of justice. This judge should be thrown off a tall building.

After reading the article, I didn’t find where they administered a breath analysis or a blood sample. If they didn’t I can see maybe why he escaped the more serious charge. I also find it unlikely that his speed increased from 93-103 in five seconds. The article also does not state if he had any previous charges and that could have led to the lighter sentencing. I would also like to know how they determined his speed.

A ballpark estimation can be had from the damage to the vehicles and to the dead victim. I saw no notation of the speed limit in the article. I expect the speed was determined by speed cameras. Also...

Another officer then administered a standardized field sobriety test at the scene. The affidavit described Bremby as displaying bloodshot and glassy eyes, slurred speech, an alcohol odor, swaying, staggering and disorientation, though he told officers he had not had any alcoholic beverages. At the conclusion of the sobriety test, the officer determined Bremby was impaired and placed him under arrest.

Guilty...and the black judge just lets him walk. spit

A illegal shoots a man in the face in Tennessee and gets probation. And now this. What is going on with our courts?

Apparently, the new thing to do at the scene of an accident is to pull the computer from the involved vehicles. The police can read the information from each vehicle to determine speed, acceleration, braking and steering inputs (similar to an airplane's "black box"). I also wouldn't be surprised if there is a small video clip included with each car, taken from any of the myriad cameras now built into every vehicle...

That would be a lot more reliable than drivers, passengers and 5 witnesses, all of whom can honestly tell a different story.

Rodney Earl Bremby II,

It always amazed me how the despicable media glorifies and dignifies these animals by printing thier names in such a manner. The justice system is broken for those of us who are the real victims
