The defeated presidential candidate faces criminal investigations in his home country, which had canceled his passports
SÃO PAULO—Just days after losing Brazil’s presidential election, Flávio Bolsonaro arrived in Miami Wednesday after fleeing his home country, where he faces mounting legal pressure from a Supreme Court that has already sent his father to prison.
The 45-year-old senator, son of former right-wing President Jair Bolsonaro, crossed into Argentina late Tuesday before boarding a private jet that took his family to the U.S. via Ecuador, defying a Supreme Court order barring him from leaving Brazil.
Bolsonaro faces criminal investigations into alleged financial crimes, which he has dismissed as part of a political witch hunt against his family by left-leaning justices.
Referring to himself as the “leader of Brazil” in a statement Wednesday, Bolsonaro accused his opponent President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva of stealing Sunday’s election and thanked Trump for welcoming him to his “land of freedoms.”
Bolsonaro said he planned to lead Brazil’s opposition from the U.S., likening himself to other resistance figures who faced exile including Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado.
Television images showed Bolsonaro and his family stepping off a private jet in Miami Wednesday morning before being escorted to an SUV, as officers scrambled to hide the family from view with umbrellas.
The Trump administration issued visas to Bolsonaro and his family to allow them legal entry upon arrival, State Department officials said, offering a potential safe haven for one of Latin America’s most prominent right-wing dynasties that has long counted on the U.S. president for help.
Flávio Bolsonaro fled Brazil after losing the presidential election to da Silva on Sunday, with 48.2% of the vote against 51.8% for the incumbent, stunning pollsters and campaigners alike who had widely predicted a victory for the...

I read
Elsewhere today that Lula is having the police confiscate the passports of a lot of the political opposition …. To prevent more escapes such as Bolsinaro’s.
We need to put a protective ring of steel around this guy, and help him set up a government in exile in preparation to take that country back.
Uh oh. It sounds like more arrests might be forthcoming.
Nothing says “democracy” like arresting all your political opponents.
He’d be ok as a peanut gallery critic from a distance. Didn’t happen in Iran or Cuba as people die doing the right thing. As Cuba collapses Marco needs to turn up the heat. Please understand you don’t see the Shah’s son tapping into any discontent-not enough anyway. The Bay of Pigs didn’t ignite a populist opposition as the CIA insisted it would happen. So Iran is dealt with. Perhaps Brazil will be the next domino to fall-remember that term? Communist-right? Venezuela will embrace that ‘capitalist suck’ and enjoy it. Between Cuba and Venezuela Brazil will have no choice butt to lay back and enjoy the rape.
Don't forget Venezuela used to be a prosperous country.
Yep, and the media is cheering Lula on and lying about everything in Brazil.
More likely Brazil will turn into the next Venezuela.

Brazil is still far from that. The opposition will control Congress and Chavez was a lot more leftist than Lula. I think that won’t happen during Lula’s presidency.
Good choice landing in Florida. If he had landed in Kalifornia or New York, the democRATs would have offered him up to Lula for a substantial 10% fee.
Wait a minute. Brazil is Portuguese speaking. Is it close enough to Spanish?

Smart move by Flavio Bolsonaro. Brazil, like a lot of the other Latin countries, are filled with corruptniks and wannabe strongmen.
I’m not a linguist, but I’ve read through enough old aircraft maintenance records (Varig) in Portuguese to know that I wasn’t reading Spanish. The two languages are different enough.
They did it to the January 6th protestors. They'll do it again.
Yeah
where is his father? is he safe?

THE GIANT NO ONE SEES: RED REVOLUTION COMES TO “GREEN GIANT” BRAZIL

SNIPPET: “Lula and Chavez have established a “strategic relationship,” and recently agreed upon a joint Brazilian-Venezuelan oil venture worth billions of dollars. Lula and Chavez have joined with Daniel Ortega, the returned Nicaraguan Marxist dictator, to form an anti-U.S. Latin American military alliance - all with Russian assistance - funded by the region’s abundant oil reserves.
Brazil is engaged in its own arms build-up and Lula is determined that Brazil will become at least a first-rate regional power. Unfortunately, Lula is establishing Brazil as an anti-American military power by aligning with nations hostile or potentially hostile to the U.S. Lula has developed close ties with not only Chavez, but also with his political clones, Evo Morales in Bolivia, and Rafael Correa in Ecuador.
Lula supports the international pariah, Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, and defends the right of the Islamic Republic of Iran to develop a nuclear capability. Iran has expressed its willingness to share its atomic technology with Brazil - as well as with Venezuela.”
They voted (ok that’s an assumption) for third world crap and they got it.
