Conservative influencer James O’Keefe charged with unlawful voting and identity theft in Minnesota

A Minnesota prosecutor on Wednesday charged conservative provocateur James O’Keefe and influencer Cam Higby with felony counts of unlawful voting and identity theft after they misrepresented themselves at polling places in August using the names of registered voters.

Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty, who announced the charges at a news conference, accused the pair of entering polling places during state primary election voting on Aug. 11 and identifying themselves using names of registered voters in those precincts without those voters’ knowledge or permission.

“Both men stopped short of signing the oath we all sign before receiving our ballot,” she said. “But Minnesota law states clearly that no individual shall intentionally misrepresent their identity in applying for a ballot.”

Never mind that O'Keefe proved that fraud could EASILY BE COMMITTED WITH THE SYSTEM IN PLACE IN MN!

O’Keefe is very careful about not stating that his identity is that of a person on the rolls. He just states the name. Doesn’t sign anything and doesn’t actually vote or handle any ballots.

In a sane court, this case goes nowhere.

They get charged with SHOWING how easy it is to commit fraud in Minnesota, so instead of being commended for showing off the fraud, they get charged with showing how easy it is to commit fraud..I swear Minnesota is a lost cause

You could also say he showed how difficult it is to commit fraud without being caught.

Under what name does Ilhan Omar vote?

Doesn’t this open a honey hole of opportunity for O’Keefe, et al, to expose the living crap out of MN for their wide open voting system?

In a sane court, The police in the George Floyd case would have been exonerated.

The application requires filling out of forms. This is a retaliatory indictment.

He gave the names and addresses of registered voters without their consent. How is that not identity theft?

An honest headline would be more like “O’Keefe demonstrates how easy it is to commit election fraud in Minnesota.” But corporate media is not interested in honesty, only pushing a one-sided narrative.

I would also ask if the identity theft charge requires the presentation of some sort of bogus documentation.

Good point. It would be costly, though, and he has lately been particularly feverish with his fundraising.

Is a verbal response now a legal response? The first act in requesting a ballot is filling out the form - under threat of perjury. They did not. They verbally identified themselves as “Puddin Tain” (or whatever). They never affirmed that by signature, and the inquisitors were not law enforcement.

I completely disagree with your point of view.

I don’t see how name dropping amounts to identity theft. There is also a charge of illegal voting, which he definitely did not do.

That is the stupidest thing I have heard in a while. Only reason he got "caught" was due to his YouTube post being popular. Had they not videoed it, nobody would have known or cared. They are just pissed he showed how easy it would be to commit fraud.

He’s pointing out a possible defense after being charged.
