The University of Maryland's football program is at rock bottom once again, sitting at 2-5 and having just fired head coach Mike Locksley.
Attendance is also near the bottom, with their average of 42,264 fans through four home games sitting 15th out of 18 teams in the Big Ten.
With the Terrapins in dire straits, the university's athletic department is deciding to lure students in with the promise of giving away one semester's worth of tuition.
To win, Maryland students who claim their tickets for Saturday's game against Illinois will need to scan a QR code on the video board to be entered into a raffle.
After staying through all four quarters of the game, five finalists will be brought down to the field.
Finally, one lucky student will be chosen to win the equivalent of one semester of in-state undergraduate tuition - roughly $8,000 - for the spring semester.

Oops. Thought this was The Bee.
That was my first thought too. It’s Bee level.
FSU should try that..............
Are they dis-qualified if the fall asleep at any time during the game? By the way, is Maryland an institute of higher education or is it just football they are selling?
So it’s a lottery - gambling, involving college sports. Just the kind of thing you want to encourage.
That’s what I call desperate. The students have to be bribed with ‘a chance to win free tuition’ if they stay for a full game.
Has this Maryland college ever considered that just perhaps, in this point of time, Maryland doesn’t want or need a Football Team. The conclusion may be shocking, but it may also be the truth. Perhaps the majority of this generation has different priorities than those generations of the past.
Chances are, many of those students who do attend the games and do stay for a full game are staring at their iphones for TikToc, X and Instagram Updates anyway.
They could start by changing the name of their mascot.
Just one more example on how the NCAA ruined college football, Big10 at least. Bringing in these east coast teams like Rutgers, Maryland and the west coast teams like USC, UCLA, WA etc. so they can make more money through TV, etc.
Puke.
Im a terp
We brought a pint bottle to spike the cup of coke
We were passed out drunk in the dorms by halftime
“The University of Maryland’s football program is at rock bottom once again, sitting at 2-5 and having just fired head coach Mike Locksley.” I wonder if they could beat the KC Chefs, I mean Chiefs, they scored three whole points Sunday night.
It’s rough when your football team exists to get the Big 10 Network on DC area cable TV. See also: Rutgers.
bkmk
EVEN COLLEGE MATH SUCKS:
SEATED XXX OUT OF 18 TEAMS IN ‘THE BIG TEN”
IF THEY PAID FOR THEIR SEATS_—THEY CAN EXIT WHENEVER THEY PLEASE, IMO.

I went to Iowa State in the mid 70s, and I learned how to drink by attending the Cyclone football games there. The only way to watch an entire game was to drink (18 was the age then), but you couldn’t get so drunk that the cops could nail you for public intoxication as you left the stadium. For some of the bigger games, the cops would bring in school buses as mobile drunk tanks. Four highballs was the limit I learned. Start late in the first quarter and finish up halfway through the fourth. I followed that rule at parties, keggers in the woods, and concerts, and never once had any trouble from the cops.
It’s still the way I drink nowadays, although like that only when the Mrs. drives or at home. One of the more valuable life lessons I learned at college.
That’s true. They are not supposed to be Duty Bound about something that is supposed to be for recreation or for fun.
The twerps?
