The police chief at Utah Valley University — who has taken the brunt of the blowback over how few campus officers were present when conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was shot and killed — has stepped down.
Jeff Long, who was named UVU’s police chief in November 2024, resigned earlier this month

Lt. Eric Beveridge has been appointed acting chief while the university conducts a search for a permanent replacement ... will report to Michael Rapich, who was named this week as UVU’s inaugural chief safety officer. That new position is meant to elevate security and emergency preparedness at the school following Kirk’s death.
The post was recommended by both an independent review and a state task force that assessed policing shortfalls at the Orem school.
In the aftermath of Kirk’s shooting, UVU has continued to face criticism. The school likely had too few officers for an event that drew more than 3,000 people, reviewers found, and failed to coordinate with nearby city and county police agencies for support for that crowd size and after the shooter fired.

TPUSA told UVU they only expected 600 students, but 3000 showed up. Wasn’t chief Long’s fault. Also, he tried to talk TPUSA into using an indoor venue for safety, but they said NO.
Was this the guy who said he had the roof covered but did not?
The “I got you covered” text .. No officer was posted on that roof.

Charlie’s team should have put their own people on roofs everywhere, at Butler, too. = many would volunteer.
