Musk: Ukraine military violated Starlink terms of service
X - Twitter ^ | Oct 24, 2026 | Elon Musk

Posted on 10/24/2026 12:51:20 PM PDT by McGruff

Using Starlink, a civilian commercial service, for offensive drone strikes to kill people has never been allowed, nor should it be.

Starshield, a different system, is controlled by the US government. What they decide to do is up to them.

Ukraine military violated Starlink terms of service and used it for offensive drone strikes to kill people. That loophole was closed last week.

Starlink remains critical to the defense of Ukraine, as it is the only system that cannot be jammed or blown up, at least for now. Were Starlink to be turned off, the Ukrainian front line would collapse immediately. This is NOT a threat, it is simply a statement of fact.

Starlink was also crucial to preventing Russia from overrunning Ukraine in the early days of the war, as all other means of communication were destroyed or jammed by Russia.

SpaceX has done more to defend Ukraine than any private company on Earth BY FAR.

That said, I have nothing but UTTER CONTEMPT for the virtue-signaling evil warmongers who push for endless slaughter and offer no realistic solution to the conflict. May you burn in hell.

End of story.

We wouldn't give missiles to Ukraine if he was going to bomb Russia proper. But we sold them to the EU and they gave them to Russia.

So think about it...no different than Russia "crossing the line" in 2022.

Virtue signaling, but Musk. Ukraine has been using Starling/Starshield since almost the beginning of the war. So, the only difference now is that, he's wanting to keep favor with Trump, who is bound and determined to end the war, with Putin and Russia getting their way. When Russia was using Starlink to kill Ukrainians, troops and civilians, Musk knew about it. Now that it's only Ukraine using Starlink/Starshield, Musk and Trump want to stop it. No, no! Can't have Ukraine making headway in the war against Putin and Russia. Trump's buddy can't lose this war and Ukraine was/is well on the way to pushing Russia out of Ukraine. It's not beneficial for Trump and Musk to have Ukraine win the war. So, no Starshield for you.

Meanwhile, on the other side, Russia now has the advantage with which to kill more civilians, and Trump and Musk are not addressing that 'advantage'. Go ahead, Putin, kill them all, Trump and Musk support you in your evil deeds.

Whoops...We sold the missiles to the EU and they sold them to Ukraine and “Z” bombed Russia proper with them.

Dumb "Z".

He should've sold them to other countries that had a greater need, and he would've profited a lot more from the foolish aid provided to Ukraine. Duh! When will America learn?

ISIS and African jihadist groups use Starlink to coordinate attacks, manage logistics, and broadcast propaganda from remote areas.

Elon has a good point, but perhaps even Starlink should not be available to a nation at war. The Ukraine was invaded, so fighting (killing) is happening within that country’s original borders. If Starlink offers secure and un-jammable communications, then it can be used to kill people as effectively as Starshield, and is, apparently, available (to one side) where fighting is occurring.

Also, I can come up with no alternative to GPS for the extended strikes that Ukraine is performing inside Russia. There are alternatives that FR has pointed out to me, but I would expect that they are astronomically too expensive. Why is GPS being provided for strike navigation? Is “picking a side” so indiscriminant?

You had to know that this was coming

Zelensky and Trumps enemies in the US and the EU are so horny to screw Trump in the midterm elections that it has clouded their judgement

The trap was set and Zelensky predictably walked into an X ambush

These people are the most amazingly stupid crap weasels and slime rodents I have ever encountered -they bite the kind hand both feeds them and holds their lives in its palm

Musk personally intervened and donated Starlink to the Ukrainian people as a humanitarian gesture free of cost initially and now at heavily discounted price funded with US aid money

The Ukraine is now almost 100% dependent upon Starlink for their war effort and there is no alternative even in existence

Everyone knows Ukraine has been flagrantly violating Starlink terms of service by using its datalinks to control their drones guidance and targeting systems but Musk has been looking the other way

After Zelensky’s unbelievable and ungrateful comments that he was now completely liberated to ramp up Russian energy strikes by defying President Trump requests that he stop blowing up world energy markets and destroying world economies by targeting Russian oil production and diesel production Elon Musk sent a gentle message to Zelensky to remind him that he was COMPLETELY dependent upon President Trumps good will for Ukraine survival

Predictably, Zelensky and his EU and US allies and media propagandists embarked on an ill advised, extremely bad faith path of character assination and media pressure politics intimidation against both Trump and Musk

Undoing so, they have publicly confirmed beyond any doubt that Ukraine is completely and illegally violating Starlink terms of service by using its high speed data link to control and conduct its offensive military precision drone strikes

And Starlink graciously only slowed down its data link speed so that only drone control was impacted and the rest of Ukraine’s military use of the system was unaffected

Now they risk a strict enforcement of Starlink terms of service which explicitly state no military uses of the services at a critical time when they are in dire need

Biggest unforced error in modern military in recent military history and one that may cost Zelensky the war

Why is GPS being provided for strike navigation?

We don't have control over European GPS. So does Russia. We can't ban it or stop it.

Maybe the UN needs to create rules of war for future conflicts/wars. No technology allowed, for communications or for weapons. Just rocks and bows and arrows and swords, and fists/martial arts. And if you have a numerical advantage with troops, you have to sit the extra personnel that give you the advantage. All things have to be equal.

Also, I can come up with no alternative to GPS for the extended strikes that Ukraine is performing inside Russia.

Key Navigation Methods

• Inertial Navigation Systems (INS): Gyroscopes and internal motion sensors calculate the drone's position, speed, and direction independently of external signals, allowing the vehicle to stay on course even when satellite links are lost.

• GPS and Satellite Positioning: Used for primary route tracking, though these signals are frequently targeted, jammed, or spoofed by Russian electronic warfare systems.

• Pre-Programmed Autonomous Flight: Most long-range strike drones fly along fixed, pre-loaded digital waypoints to their targets without needing a live human operator or constant communication link during flight.

• AI and Visual/Terrain Guidance: Similar to modern electronic advancements in the region, Ukrainian long-range systems increasingly incorporate vision-based or AI-assisted terrain-matching components to navigate the "last mile" when GPS is completely blocked.

Ever hear of GPS? Ever hear of terrain-following technology? Ever hear of FPVs, which use cameras to guide the operator towards targets? Ever hear of troops on the ground, who can guide strikes from planes and drones? Starlink is a relatively new development on the battlefield, but military operations did take place decades and centuries before it.

Despite your snark, thanks for the reply.

The Europeans apparently have their own GPS system, called “Galileo”, and run out of Brussels. I expect that if you used this, it wouldn’t matter what America did with its GPS.

I don’t give a flying fig what the UN declares. Anyone providing navigational aids in warfare is supporting a side. You are free to like it, if it suits you. I don’t.

Thanks for the reply. I completely forgot about INS. I do expect that INS and visual systems might give you a relatively un-jammable navigation system - in other words, INS could get you close enough for visual recognition to work. This could apply to waypoints that would extend range.

The old movie, “The Terminator”, is already looking passe.

Oopsie! Sorry if I irritated you with some truths, which might have destroyed your unbalanced take on things.

Next time, I'll try not to intervene in your one-sided take on things.

BTW, where's that 'Empire of Liberty'? Never heard of it. Is that a reference to Russia, or the old USSR?

“1 May 2021”

“Turkish Bayraktar TB2 drones destroyed 114 Armenian tanks, i.e. more than three battalions, 43 infantry fighting vehicles and armored personnel carriers, 141 artillery installation and MLRS, as well as a bunch of other military equipment of the Armenian army, and this is only in 24 days. The military conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia lasted 44 days”

“Even loitering ammunition purchased from Israel hit fewer armored vehicles than Turkish drones.”

“It is possible that this infographic is actually part of an information war, which was supposed to show Armenia that Azerbaijan is armed with “the most reliable attack drone” capable of destroying a bunch of enemy weapons without losing a single UAV.”

Moscow Times [10/27/2021]

The neighboring separatist-held Luhansk People’s Republic accused Kiev of using the Bayraktar in violation of ceasefire agreements that ban the deployment of foreign drones on the front line.

The Kremlin said Wednesday that Turkey’s supply of drones to Ukraine risks destabilizing the eastern Ukraine conflict

The Ukrainian army has been locked in a long-running conflict with separatist fighters in Donetsk and Luhansk since 2014 after Moscow annexed the peninsula of Crimea from Kiev. The conflict has claimed more than 13,000 lives.

Ukraine and its Western allies accuse Russia of sending troops and arms to support the separatists, which Moscow denies.

Warsaw Institute [27 October 2021]

“The Turkish-made Bayraktar TB2 combat drone has been deployed at Donbas by the Ukrainian Joint Forces Operation for the first time, the Ukrainian Armed Forces said in a statement. The drone targeted the positions of pro-Russian insurgents on October 26. The incident has been met with criticism from Moscow.”

“The General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces stated that the unmanned aerial vehicle was used to attack a battery of howitzers that fired Ukrainian positions in Hranitne on the southern part of the line of contact. One Ukrainian soldier was killed and the other was wounded. Despite calls for a ceasefire from the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission to Ukraine, “Russian-terrorist” forces did not stop the fire. The Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces ordered the drone strike to “force the ceasefire.”

“The Ukrainian Joint Forces Operation said on October 26 that separatists made thirteen breaches to the ceasefire”

New York Times [Nov. 15, 2021]

How a Dispute Over Groceries Led to Artillery Strikes in Ukraine

Deployed for the first time in combat by Ukraine and provided by a country that is a member of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, the drone hit a howitzer operated by the separatists. Things quickly escalated.

Across the border, Russia scrambled jets. The next day, Russian tanks mounted on rail cars rumbled toward the Ukrainian border.

BBC [26 November 2021]

they see the Kremlin sending a message that it’s ready to defend its “red lines” on Ukraine: above all, that it must not join Nato.

“I think for Putin it’s really important. He thinks the West has begun giving Ukraine’s elite hope about joining Nato,” political analyst Tatiana Stanovaya at R.Politik told the BBC.

“The training, the weapons and so on are like a red rag to a bull for Putin and he thinks if he doesn’t act today, then tomorrow there will be Nato bases in Ukraine. He needs to put a stop to that.”

Ukraine’s desire to join the security bloc is nothing new, nor is Russia’s insistence on vetoing that ambition in what it sees as its own “back yard”.

But Moscow has been rattled recently by the Ukrainian military using Turkish drones against Russian-backed forces in eastern Ukraine; the flight near Crimea of two nuclear-capable US bombers was an extra irritant.

“At a meeting between Putin and Biden, neither will give clear commitments but there may be some tacit understanding on how far the US is ready to go in increasing its military support to Ukraine,” Mr Kortunov argues. “That’s not impossible.”

“Whilst Putin has a flicker of hope that he can do a deal with Biden, he won’t take any rash steps. But if he thinks it’s all doomed, he could do the worst things we can imagine,” Tatiana Stanovaya warns.

Guardian [December 16, 2021]

“With tensions escalating along the border with Russia, Luke Harding visits troops in Ukraine’s Donbas region to gauge the mood ahead of a possible invasion. The war here has continued since 2014, when pro-Russian separatists seized Ukrainian cities.”

The Brits didn’t like it when the 13 colonies declared independence.

Ukraine didn’t like it when Donetsk and Luhansk declared independence.

Russia helping Donetsk and Luhansk is like France helping the 13 colonies.

France assisting the US at Yorktown was never considered an invader despite the 1763 Treaty of Paris, which provided:

“VII. In order to reestablish peace on solid and durable foundations, and to remove for ever all subject of dispute with regard to the limits of the British and French territories on the continent of America; it is agreed, that, for the future, the confines between the dominions of his Britannick Majesty and those of his Most Christian Majesty, in that part of the world, shall be fixed irrevocably by a line drawn along the middle of the River Mississippi, from its source to the river Iberville, and from thence, by a line drawn along the middle of this river, and the lakes Maurepas and Pontchartrain to the sea; and for this purpose, the Most Christian King cedes in full right, and guaranties to his Britannick Majesty the river and port of the Mobile, and every thing which he possesses, or ought to possess, on the left side of the river Mississippi, except the town of New Orleans and the island in which it is situated, which shall remain to France, provided that the navigation of the river Mississippi shall be equally free, as well to the subjects of Great Britain as to those of France, in its whole breadth and length, from its source to the sea, and expressly that part which is between the said island of New Orleans and the right bank of that river, as well as the passage both in and out of its mouth: It is farther stipulated, that the vessels belonging to the subjects of either nation shall not be stopped, visited, or subjected to the payment of any duty whatsoever. The stipulations inserted in the IVth article, in favour of the inhabitants of Canada shall also take place with regard to the inhabitants of the countries ceded by this article.”
