Adolf Hitler's Alpine mountain retreat, known as the Eagle's Nest, was engulfed in flames on Friday night while police arrested a 33-year-old male suspect.
The residence, called the Kehlsteinhaus, is above the town of Berchtesgaden. It was one of several buildings in the area used by the Nazi dictator and his entourage during World War Two.
Hitler also used the area as a backdrop for propaganda films portraying him as a lover of animals and nature.
Local media reported that site had been "largely destroyed", with the public urged to avoid the area.

I was up there once, to visit the site. My first guess, would be a Muslim, or a communist.
Someone trying to erase Hitler from history. Probably discovered he was a giant socialist, like them, and really loved Muslims, and didnât want people to figure out he really wasnât âfar rightâ he was âfar Leftâ.
Glad you had the chance to visit it. I managed to visit two Southern plantations before they burned to the ground: Tezcuco and Nottaway, both in Louisiana. I hate seeing historic buildings being destroyed.
For anyone interested, British historian Dr. Mark Felton combined two separate videos on The Eagle's Nest on YouTube. It's 23:03 minutes long:
The NSDAP was only socialist in name, added in the early beer hall years to widen popular appeal. Historians pretty much universally describe the nazis as an ultranationalist fascist dictatorship rather than a socialist movement.
As I understood hitler loathed it and thought it was a lightning magnet, however apparently eva went there often
It probably was not hard to arrest someone, since there is only one way down from the place.
Iâm going with commie.
Sorry but your post fails with this statement “Historians pretty much universally describe”
Would that be the same expert historians who tell us Trump is the worst president ever, that every flaming liberal president is the best and socialism was never really done right before?
The truth is the Nazi’s were not pure socialists nor pure fascists but they absolutely used socialism to manage the people.
They preached power to the people while using the power of the state, you know just like the DSA wants to do today, lock people up and control speech. Funny how socialism today somehow matches the Nazis of the past, isn’t it.
Yeah, history erasing is not a thing I want. Regardless.
I donât know about Eva, but when we visited the place, we were told Hitler was only up there a few times.
Same here.
There is no âright and left,â there is Freedom vs tyranny.
But what is historical about the Eagle’s Nest? That Hitler happened to visit there a few times?
If anything, it would seem to be more like a shrine to me. In other words, not worth preserving.
Donât get me wrong. Iâm not in favor of its destruction. But if I were a local firefighter, I wouldnât break any speed laws trying to reach the place.
Some people want to control their own life, others want to control the lives of others.
Hitler, Mussolini, Stalin, Mao and many others were all Collectivists who wanted to control others. Big Government. Authoritarianism. Group rights and not individual rights. The dictators have a heck of a lot more in common than they have differences. Freedom is the rare thing.
Certainly possible. We seem to be in a worldwide Islamo/Communist revolution.
We seem to be in a worldwide Islamo/Communist revolution.
SEEM to be???
Where’ve you been?
The Red/Green Alliance is in full swing, globally.
We went on a trip recently that started on Normandy and ended at Eagleâs Nest. I think they said that Hitler only visited Eagleâs Nest 8 or so times that could be documented.
It was almost clear the day we were there and you could see to the horizon. The view was incredible.
I visited there several times while stationed in Augsburg in the early 1980âs. One trip was with my father, a WW2 Army vet (PTO, medic), one with my wife, one with visiting friends.
On my last trip up, I walked around the grounds a bit and, finding a gate open to a gravel pathway wandered around the mountain a bit stopping to inspect and pick a flower I was later told doesnât grow there - by many people, all of them wrong.
I still have that solitary Edelweissblume, framed in a wall hanging in my office.
The Eagleâs nest was an irreplaceable piece of history. To me, this is a tragedy no different than someone burning down the barracks at Dachau.
My dad laughed out loud at te âKilroy was hereâ carving on the mantel.
Iâve got pictures somewhere, not like I was ever planning on going back, but it was an amazing place with spectacular views.
That's because the Left owns history departments and calling the National Socialists fascists was an order straight from Moscow to create daylight between the International Socialists and National Socialists.
You will never find Hitler calling himself a fascist.
