The American Psychological Association Has Become Worse Than You Ever Imagined (Gad Saad)

The American Psychological Association Has Become Worse Than You Ever Imagined

If you want a microcosm of what’s happened to America’s institutions under the left’s aegis, listen to Gad Saad discuss what the American Psychological Association (APA)—the major institution of its type in America—once was and what it has now become, all through the prism of the newly elected president.

The short video is deeply disturbing when you consider that what you see here is not limited to the APA but affects all American institutions where leftists dominate, which is to say, most of our institutions. Meritocracy is dead; long live mindless, racist, sexist identity politics.

Thank you very much and God bless you.

Here is an example of just how DESTRUCTIVE the Left is.

The harm done to hard the hard and soft sciences. There is no "science."

Dr. Candice Hargons is the new President of the APA.

The the lunatics who have run this organization for decades are sociopathic leftists. They grift off of the mentally disturbed. Pathetic.

Dr. Karl Meninger was the last effectual, ethical, conscientious psychiatrist. "Whatever Became Of Sin" was a valuable book by him.

Today, you're much more likely to recover on your own than to entrust yourself to these quacks who masquerade as psychiatrists, psychologist, therapists, et al.

I have imagined pretty horrific, so I doubt that I’ll be surprised without reading the article.

They are the mentally disturbed.

I read an article years ago that said talking out problems with a trusted and sane friend will have equal results with talking to a psychologist of psychiatrist.

ps
Since most my friends of mostly hardcore conservative constitutionalists I am out of luck. The mental health professionals have already branded us as insane haters. I do not care. I talk to them and not the “Wig Pickers”

As big a contributing factor in this organizational-wide rot was conservative (i.e. normal) people not getting involved in the fields in numbers they should have and they needed to be influential.

Meritocracy is dead; long live mindless, racist, sexist identity politics.

The code is broken - here's how such losers wind up in high places - - The worthless sons and daughters of 'liberal elites' (think Hunter Biden, almost every bimbo on MSNOW, AND THE MAYOR OF NEW YORK CITY) AND ASK YOURSELF - "HOW DID SO MANY MEDIOCRE PEOPLE WIND UP AT THE TOP?"

Answer: Think very average prep school brat who's given everything, then off to the best Universities as a 'legacy' (didn't qualify to be accepted but rich mommy and daddy went there and still donate big bucks..Maybe a free house from daddy and a great job with pull from well connected friends and family.

NEPO babies ... Same people running MSNOW as run The American Psychological Association. And most of our other 'institutions'...

I have known that for years. They’ve basically been promoting every sort of sexual deviance known to man as good and healthy, while calling sexual purity and chastity unnatural signs of mental illness.

No one should listen to them.

The Meninger family effectively created the modern treatment models for psychology and psychiatry. Most of what you’re complaining about was their original work.

Via GROK:

“Dr. Karl Augustus Menninger (July 22, 1893 – July 18, 1990) was an influential American psychiatrist who helped revolutionize 20th-century mental health care.

Key Background and Career

• Education: Graduated cum laude from Harvard Medical School in 1917 and trained under Elmer Ernest Southard at the Boston Psychopathic Hospital.

• The Menninger Clinic: Co-founded the Menninger Clinic and Foundation in Topeka, Kansas, with his father (Dr. C.F. Menninger) and brother (Dr. William Menninger), establishing one of the first group psychiatric and psychoanalytic practices in the United States.

• Training Hub: Instrumental in expanding the Menninger School of Psychiatry and the Winter Veterans Administration Hospital in Topeka, which grew into a massive psychiatric training center.

Major Contributions and Advocacy

• Popularizing Psychiatry: Authored influential, widely read books translating psychoanalytic and psychological concepts for the general public, including The Human Mind (1930), Man Against Himself, Love Against Hate, and The Vital Balance.

• Milieu Therapy: Championed humane, family-like treatment environments and multidisciplinary care teams rather than sterile, isolated asylum confinement.

• Criminal Justice Reform: Critiqued retributive prison systems and advocated for psychiatric evaluation and rehabilitation instead of traditional punishment, notably in his 1968 book The Crime of Punishment.

• Child Welfare: Founded The Villages, Inc. in 1964 to create specialized homes for neglected and troubled children.”

I have taken on several psychologists head to head, even in litigation and they folded, one even took down her shingle and closed her practice.

About 25 years ago I returned to the university and got a degree in psychology. Quite honestly, it was worthless. So I went on to study neuroscience.

I’m married to a psychiatrist, board certified in psychiatry and neurology, who has been on a prestigious medical school faculty for over thirty years. As a result, I have attended weekly hospital grand rounds in psychiatry, attended the APA annual conventions, as well as the regional and state psychiatric conferences for many years. I’ve attended so many psychiatric training and CME seminars that many recognize me as part of their group.

I would never go to a psychologist as their knowledge and experience is pretty much limited to talk therapy. There are so many biochemical causes of mental illness that psychologists are not trained to identify. It really takes an MD, trained in medicine to perform the first evaluation. Then, when biochemical causes are ruled out, a psychologist can perform limited work.

As a psychiatrist, my wife worked the ER, handling the worst of the worst cases, often doing I involuntary commitments. I joke that she never needs to divorce me as she can just have me committed.

The major problem with the profession is that most psychiatrists have become pill pushers. Pills do not heal the wounds in the soul. They merely block them from surfacing. So instead they fester and manifest in other ways such as physical illness.

For the most part, the psychiatric profession consists of liberal democrats. The psychology profession is even worse. They are not grounded in reality.

Many of them have come to me for private sessions, and they are, to be polite, unstable at best. They often choose the profession to figure out their own unresolved psychological issues. Instead, they tend to project their unresolved issues upon their clients and patients.

The trend of the profession.

The American Psychiatric Association voted to remove homosexuality from the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders in 1973. However, a related diagnosis called “ego-dystonic homosexuality” remained until 1987, when it was completely eliminated in the DSM-III-R.

Timeline of Changes in the DSM

• 1952 (DSM-I): Homosexuality was classified as a “sociopathic personality disturbance”.

• 1968 (DSM-II): It was reclassified under “sexual deviation”.

• 1973: Following protests by activists and research showing it was not a pathology, the American Psychiatric Association Board of Trustees voted to remove it as a mental disorder, replacing it with “sexual orientation disturbance”.

• 1980 (DSM-III): “Sexual orientation disturbance” was replaced with “ego-dystonic homosexuality,” which applied only to people distressed by their orientation.

• 1987 (DSM-III-R): Ego-dystonic homosexuality was completely removed from the manual.

The descent of Psychology all began for me with the 1973 decision by the American Psychiatric Association (APA) to remove homosexuality as a mental disorder from the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM). Removal followed a two-year campaign Newsweek described as ongoing disruptive, chaotic attacks on psychiatrists and physiologists. Yet throughout these disruptive attacks, no academic papers arose at conferences refuting any research previously done. Eventually onslaughts forced sufficient abstentions, under-votes, and apprehensive responses for a third of APA’s 17,000 plus membership to approve removal.

After this decision, activists targeted leading individual researchers such as Dr. David Reuben, and Masters and Johnson to ensure perpetual sanctity for the APA action. No research papers would again arise to confirm initial therapy success rates of 30% to 60 %, substantiating that 7 of 10 homosexuals could eventually walk away from the lifestyle. Persistent activism over the years enabled ubiquitous infiltration of academia thereby ensuring pre-ordained theses, approved flexibility in research designs, suitable human data points, and enchanting statistical enhancements.

Psychology and Psychiatry had always had a tenuous hold on claims they were sciences with the standing of Chemistry and Physics. The developments in statistics should have enabled them to a least determine there is a marginal or significant propensity for a particular disorder. Careful studies could have identified and graded methods of treatment. Given persistence in searching for correct methods of analysis, even accumulated episodic events could be sifted for transformation into valid information. Instead, Psychology and Psychiatry have chosen to abandon all pretense of scientific rigor in exchange for popular societal and political acclaim.

Psychology and Psychiatry chose to relinquish any attempt at scientific rigor for popular societal and political acclaim. With studies concerning homosexuality freed from objective analysis, advocates for social justice relied upon base antidotal politics to dominate debates. Their DSM became a refuge accommodating social contagions, promoting drug marketing, and posting political manifestos.

These two spurious sciences are actually contagious, barbaric ideologies. Through their pronouncements efforts to help people live according to their self-evident anatomy is called “conversion therapy” and is considered bad. However, indoctrination often followed by brutal chemical treatments, and surgical actions designed to destroy the person’s natural sexual identity is called “gender affirming care” and is good. With this language in place conversations cannot even begin.
