Astonishing video shot on the worst day of the current anti-government insurrection shows the confectionery outlet in his home town of Amiens, northern France, surrounded by at least two platoons of CRS police.
The elite Republican Security Companies placed their vans in front of the 'Jean Trogneux' confectionery store while leaving others unguarded.
It was founded in 1872 by Jean-Baptiste Trogneux, the great-grandfather of Brigitte Macron, Mr Macron's 73-year-old wife. Trogneux is her maiden name.
The chocolatiers dynasty is renowned for its macarons, and profits from the sweet treats go to all family with shares in the business.
Ordinary police officers were among those who were furious that they had to protect the shop while others were left unguarded.

This behavior by European "elites" is why my ancestors left Europe and why the US should have walked away from Europe decades ago.

It's not exclusive to Europe. But Europe (and Canada) expects us to protect them and their socialism which we've done with no apparent benefit for us other than perhaps during the Cold War. There has been almost nothing gained since the end of that.
