In late August, during one of Karoline Leavitt’s final meetings with President Trump in the Oval Office, he pitched her on an idea in front of several senior aides. He told her to move reporters out of the James S. Brady Press Briefing Room, which would effectively remove news organizations from the White House. It would be, he told her, her “last legacy.”
But the proposal never moved forward while she was there. The president had put the request to her several times over months, according to three people with knowledge of the discussions who were not authorized to speak publicly. Ms. Leavitt officially stepped down as White House press secretary on Aug. 27.
Mr. Trump has told aides he would prefer to bring back the indoor pool President Franklin D. Roosevelt added in 1933 as therapy for his polio-afflicted legs; President Richard Nixon later covered it over to make room for the news media. Journalists who are credentialed to cover the White House work out of a small office space connected to the press briefing room.
While moving the media out of the White House may be a relatively small debate considering Mr. Trump’s attacks on journalists more broadly, it would be highly symbolic. The proximity of the media to the seat of U.S. executive power has long been an acknowledgment of the importance of a free press in a constitutional democracy.

Good! Unfettered access is not in the first amendment. 👉 this way out.
Just call it a bidone daily cap. They should understand from experience.
“according to three people with knowledge of the discussions who were not authorized to speak publicly.’
Translation: this is all made up.
Good heavens! Convert it into a Roman Bath. You could even still invite the “press” in, and swim around naked, like Biden. They might like it.
They would never make something up that makes Trump look so awesome.
When the fake news flat out lies and spins...why not do this?
Trump could do all of his press conferences on Zoom. Everyone would have access, and he could mute whomever he wants.

Put up a Circus Tent a few miles away ,LOL
Whey should they have access to the Whitehouse. We have to treat these “news items” just the same as FDR’s Fireside chats.
“The proximity of the media to the seat of U.S. executive power has long been an acknowledgment of the importance of a free press in a constitutional democracy.”
except we don’t have a free press, we have the propaganda wing of the dnc and we’re a representative republic, not a democracy.

It's way past due. The current press room used to be JFK's swimming pool where he nailed his interns; President Nixon turned it into the press room, and he shouldn't have bothered IMHO. Now the space is needed for staff. And the media doesn't own any part of the White House. And in-person media went out with powdered wigs.
Go ahead, Nixon created the current format and a dedicated room for it in 1969.
“according to three people with knowledge of the discussions who were not authorized to speak publicly”
No doubt these were the same two people who told the NY Slimes that Israel bombed a hospital in gaza...
If there must be a daily briefing, let the Press Secretary do it live on youtube where everyone can see it unfiltered.
according to three people with knowledge of the discussions who were not authorized to speak publicly
I smell BS. Anonymous sources are not reliable and this article is proof of their nonsense. Does it make a difference if they’re in the press room or on the front lawn when they fabricate material?
Put up a circus tent and let them drive to it in clown cars
I have heard about 10,000 people visit the white house each week. Why could not the press secretary select about 20 random people a day and give them a press pass? That would be real people asking real questions, not those sluts and nuts we see now.
