California funneled nearly $369 million in federal aid intended for victims of its deadliest wildfire year to low-income housing developers — without requiring them to house a single wildfire survivor, a California Post investigation found.
The staggering sum was awarded to developers while thousands of Californians struggled to rebuild their lives after the devastating 2018 fires, which killed 103 people and damaged or destroyed more than 24,000 structures.
Among them is motivational speaker and comedian, Mickey Schechter, 62, who lost his Cornell home and $60,000 in plumbing tools when the Woolsey Fire tore through the Santa Monica Mountains, destroying 37 homes in his community.
Nearly eight years later, he is still living in a cramped, 350-square-foot guesthouse that survived the blaze, unable to afford the estimated $2 million it would now cost to rebuild his home.
Schechter was furious when told where a large chunk of the federal cash had gone.
“That’s our money. We’re the ones that suffer for it. Give us our damn money. That’s bulls—t. I’m pissed,” Schechter told the California Post.
“Now I wanna know how can I possibly get money from that grant?” he said.
“That’s not your money. That’s our money.”
The federal government allocated more than $1 billion to California to help communities recover from the 2018 wildfires, including the Camp Fire that killed 85 people in Paradise and the Woolsey Fire that devastated communities north of Los Angeles.

I’m so glad I don’t live there. I would be compelled to express myself to the PTB.
Either Cali voters enjoy the lunacy from its leaders. Or, the system is so rigged that the left can’t lose power no matter how many voters want them out.
Hey! I’ve got an idea on how California can get MO’ MONEY… do a “one-time” 5% tax on the wealth of all California billionaires. What could possibly go wrong!
Democracy is the theory that the common people know what they want, and deserve to get it good and hard.
-H.L. Mencken
The rats have welded the door shut. They cannot vote their way out now even if they are ready to which they may or may not be.
We are going to have to start hanging thieves.
And that includes thieves who steal votes and elections.
The elite oligarchs are doing this all on purpose.
Just look at Macron and Gruesome ... and, there should be no doubt whatsoever, that they are....poking fingers in the plebs eyes.
Voters can fix this if they want. The is exactly what they have voted for so I don’t feel bad.
When was the last time California didn’t steal from it’s people?
I’ll bet Spencer Pratt will have something to say about that.
I absolutely detest and despise “low income housing”.
It would be one thing if Americans who should be entitled to it could get it. One would think elderly veterans would be given some kind of preference, but that isn’t the case.
ARE THEY FINALLY FILLING UP THAT EMPTY RESERVOIR ONE BUCKETFUL AT A TIME?
“...without requiring them to house a single wildfire survivor, a California Post investigation found.”
Too many people on this forum are overlooking the truth of it in your post. I speak from experience on this, not as a resident of California, but of Massachusetts, which the Left has been accruing, consolidating, and cementing its power for the last 65 years, and successfully, too.
Massachusetts is a microcosm of California.
In California, the Rats have spent a lot of time and energy to turn one of the wealthiest states, one of the most beautiful states, and the state with the most endearing climate patterns into a state that is no more than a perpetual source of 54 verminous, rat electoral votes, though...there is a silver lining:
California is projected to lose 4 electoral votes in the 2030 census simply as a result of the exodus of citizens fleeing the state. If we can find a way to exclude illegals from the census, there may be a total of six electoral votes lost.
This is how our Republic should work, with each of the fifty states being an incubator of ideas and experiments on governance. California leads the pack in failing its citizens, who vote with their feet, just behind Massachusetts, which lead the parade in the percentage of the state population leaving.
The truth in what you said is:
It is easier to stay out from living under a socialist or communist regime if you fight them before they obtain power. If they obtain power, it will take far longer to get out from under them, and the cost in money and lives will be higher than if you had simply fought them on their way into power.
This is a hard truth and many, even people on this forum, say it isn't a fight right now, or is not the main fight.
But it is, and that is the battle we are facing now. We damn well better grit our teeth and fight it.
I think it’s most certainly rigged, same with the east coast in states like New YOrk, Massachussets.
A big eye opener for me was in 2016 I was all over the state of Mass. as part of my job in sales, from March to October and all I saw were Trump signs, Trump bumper stickers, Trump posters, some guy even put up a Trump for POTUS billboard sign on i-95.
I RARELY if ever saw anything or anybody supporting Hillary and that goes for Boston as well.
And she won the state? Like HELL she did! Like hell! It perfectly explained to me how a drunken bum like Ted Kennedy was reelected for 50 years even after the murder of Mary Jo.
