Ukraine’s Zelensky wouldn’t be included in proposed talks, as Russia’s leader seeks to negotiate end to war favorable to Moscow

Russian President Vladimir Putin has proposed that he, President Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping meet next month to talk about Ukraine in an attempt to negotiate an end to the four-year conflict that would favor Moscow, said people familiar with the discussions.

The plan represents an effort by Putin to capitalize on warming ties between Trump and the Russian leader that have alarmed Ukraine and its allies in Washington and Europe. Such a summit—one without the involvement of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky—would be unprecedented and send alarm bells ringing in European capitals and beyond.

Putin floated the idea in an Oct. 9 phone call with Trump, said a former Russian intelligence officer briefed on the matter. That conversation also produced a deal for the U.S. to buy Russian diesel fuel and facilitate its sale on the global market.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed that discussions were taking place over a potential meeting.

“There is no clear understanding yet regarding the meeting itself or its potential agenda, although all three parties acknowledge the hypothetical possibility of such a meeting taking place,” he told The Wall Street Journal.

A senior U.S. official said Trump hadn’t agreed to such a summit. Still, the official said the president could be receptive to the idea, given his desire to fulfill a campaign promise to settle the war. Trump had said it would be finished on “day one” of his new term, but...

Seems you would want “Z” there...except he’s a “no way”...He’d rather see all Ukrainians dead first.

"A senior U.S. official said Trump hadn’t agreed to such a summit."

Which sort of negates the tone of the rest of the article. Until its announced affirmatively, from Trump, it is a lot of idle speculation.

And when Ukraine and the EU refuse to agree, will Chinese troops be sent in to fight alongside the Russians and North Koreans? They have wisely avoided wars recently which has in many ways fueled their ascent, but they’re probably aware some real world war experience would help them prepare for taking Taiwan.

I know Zelensky can be a pain in the posterior, but he and Ukraine have an essential say and negotiating behind his back is improper.

I’m not a great fan of oral negotiation. Proposals should be put in writing in fine detail.

Incorrect. Zelensky has agreed to meet Putin anywhere neutral, Putin ONLY agrees to meet Zelensky in Moscow , which is ridiculous.

“will Chinese troops be sent in to fight alongside the Russians and North Koreans”

No Russian diesel for China - no Chinese drone parts for Ukraine

Would you fight to the last American if the alternative was being conquered by China and becoming their slave labor? How about Mexico instead?

It's not "idle speculation" that Putin made the offer.

Taxation is the modern slavery - no responsibility (such as medical care and food) - only money that victims are coerced to sending in

Can you think of a system of exploitation superior to taxation?

Taxes are a minor expense compared to being locked in a Chinese Foxcon factory complete with suicide nets.

Zelensky is the impediment to any resolution to the war.

IMHO, he’s become addicted to the power he’s accumulated and knows that if the war ends, so does his role in the machinations of European and world power politics.

That’s why he refuses to hold elections. If he loses an election, he loses everything that matters to him.

He carries the same persona as other European dictators, like Stalin, Mussolini; he’s always in his combat fatigues. They are an indelible component of his visible authority, not very different than that of Fidel Castro 60 years ago.

This is why President Trump had such difficulty getting Zelensky to wear normal clothing when he came to the US, even after the President told him very specifically to wear regular business attire.

If Zelensky has so much trouble ridding himself of his militaristic attire even just temporarily, and for such an unbelievably important meeting with the one man who can save his country, how much more difficulty would he have allowing an election that would probably remove him completely from the world stage?

The bottom line is that Zelensky does not want the war to end, because that would be the end of his power, and that’s the real sticking point in stopping the mass casualties in Ukraine.

I don’t believe Zelensky will ever agree to a negotiated peace of any type, now or in the future.

Until Zelensky is removed from the peace negotiations, there will never be an end to this war.

And Piano Man's sabotage of every attempt at a resolution behind Trump's back isn't improper?

Great news. As little St Z does not want negotiations or Peace, best to let China, Russia and the US fix it. Also notice the weak, war mongering EU is also excluded from the talks. Hilarious.

Do remember President Trump’s recent post “ Zelensky does not want Peace”….
Best to let the big three to end it. Maybe they should just carve Ukraine up like the West did to Yugoslavia? Russia, Poland, Hungary, Romania each get their historical land back….they can leave the city Kiev to the” little green Satan”….not my words, but the Ukrainian Babushka’s words.

As little St Z does not want negotiations or Peace

Sure, Z has agreed to every ceasefire, and is willing to meet Putin for negotiations on neutral territory, while Putin says no to everything, but Z is the problem. Okay

Zelensky agreed to the ceasefire and withheld attacks on energy/refineries for three days, while Russia never agreed, attacked Ukrainian energy infrastructure daily causing massive blackouts, but that's Ukraine's fault. Okay

Zelensky is the impediment to any resolution to the war.

How by not surrendering to Putin?

If Z is gone tomorrow, the war continues.

If Putin is gone tomorrow, the war ends.

That's how you know who is the real 'impediment' to a resolution to the war.
