Seattle mayor faces questions over public safety after weekend crime spree

SEATTLE — If you stand between Second Avenue and Bell and Blanchard streets, you can glimpse Seattle’s rock 'n' roll past. The area was home to the Crocodile Cafe and Mama’s Mexican Kitchen.

Today, a daytime open-air drug market and a sidewalk encampment have taken shape nearby, with several business owners saying they are afraid to speak on the record about what they described as a recent trend.

Wilson also said the city is working on neighborhood-based public safety plans. She named Belltown among neighborhoods with persistent safety concerns and said long-term progress requires addressing root causes as well as responding to individual incidents.

“Real progress means not just reacting to incidents when they occur, but taking that really deep look at the root causes,” she said.

Thank you very much and God bless you.

They need to restore law and order.

THAT would be ‘real progress.’

The Seattle Police Department will eliminate its officer hiring incentives beginning Sept. 1, citing an uncertain budget outlook even as the department remains hundreds of deployable officers short of its staffing goal, hiring is running behind 2025 levels, and officer departures are on pace for their worst year since 2023.
The decision comes after Seattle spent years and millions of dollars attempting to rebuild a police force decimated during the city’s defund era. It also comes under Mayor Katie Wilson, who before taking office advocated cutting SPD’s budget in half, argued there was a case for disbanding police departments and once said activists wanted to move toward a future “entirely without SPD.”

Translation: this child mayor is full of crap. Elections have consequences as Obozo once said.

“… a daytime open-air drug market and a sidewalk encampment…”

We just need to focus on that entrepreneurial spirit and desire for affordable urban housing, and crime will disappear!

The mayor believes that unarmed conflict resolution social workers are the answer to crime. As Thomas Sowell has observed, liberals like to replace what works with what sounds good.

Huh.

And what do you think the "root cause" is Mrs. Mayor?

“We just need to focus on that entrepreneurial spirit and desire for affordable urban housing,”

well maybe. personally I think they should rent some city owned property, have stalls and invite food trucks, maybe have a bunch of “apple houses” surrounding the area where they can all live in harmony and stuff

Well one deep root cause would be sin but the left never goes there. It’s always society’s fault. So more money thrown at stuff. The left is pro criminal anyway so all this is also distraction.
