12 killed, hundreds injured in Saudi Arabia airport attack as Houthi strikes intensify
The Washington Post ^ | October 10, 2026 | Rachel Chason

At least 12 people were killed – including one American – and more than 300 injured in an attack Saturday at Saudi Arabia’s international airport in Riyadh, aviation authorities there said, as the Persian Gulf nation faced some of the biggest attacks it has seen in years by Iranian-backed Houthi militants.

While the rebel group did not immediately claim responsibility for the attack, it came during a week where smoke could be seen billowing above the airport and explosions sounded in Saudi Arabia’s capital in a wave of intensifying Houthi strikes.

As Saturday’s attack forced aviation authorities to suspend operations at the airport, President Donald Trump did not rule out joining Saudi strikes on the Houthis in response to a question from reporters.

“We may. We’re going to look at it,” he said.

Saudi’s civil aviation authorities said in a statement the 309 injured “included critical cases who are currently receiving necessary medical care at various hospitals. The attack also caused property damage, the extent of which is currently being assessed.” The attack also prompted the U.S. Embassy to issue a warning to citizens asking them to “avoid this airport and surrounding areas.”

*** The Houthis, who receive training and support from Iran, and Yemen’s government, which is backed by Saudi Arabia, were embroiled for years in an active civil war that left hundreds of thousands of Yemenis dead. Saudi Arabia, focused on improving its international perception, agreed to a 2022 truce that left the Houthis in control of much of Yemen’s north and the Saudi-backed government in control of the south.

***“Restraint has always been a hallmark of Saudi policy and action, historically, from the days of King Abdulaziz,” he said. “That restraint is no longer operable.”

When will the Saudis grow some cojones? Or maybe just pay to imports some NORK soldiers to go door to door with flamethrowers in Yemen.

I think the Houthis are about to get hurt.

Houthis and Iranians are relaxed and feeling safe now that Trump reassured them:
2 days ago, USA Today:

“President Donald Trump ruled out new U.S. strikes on Iran before the pivotal midterm elections after oil prices jumped and stocks fell over concerns that he could resume military attacks.

Writing on Truth Social, Trump said the United States would not “be attacking Iran at any time prior to the Midterm Elections” that will be held in November.”

I think they will lose, as the Sauds should have the greater amount of resources. However, it might take awhile because the Sauds only gained back a small part of territory that was lost to the Houthis.

I guess we’ll soon find out if the Mecca Agreement is worth the paper it is written on. If the Houthis take the rest of Yemen, then Oman falls next, giving Iran complete control of the Gulf. No more arguing if it’s the Arabian or Persian Gulf.

Houthis can no longer get resupply from Iran. I imagine that China is now supplying them with military hardware.

Some sort of “altercation”? Somebody did something? Somebody hormonal? What could possibly explain this sort of incident? O guess we’ll never know.

Finally Saudi Arabia gets serious payback 25 years after 9/11 but getting past that initial emotional response I am reminded...

“Let he who has no sin cast the first stone”

It’s pretty rich reading a Saudi Press Release about a “Terrorist Act” when one remembers the Saudi religious teaching, Saudi national Osama bin Laden leading and most perps of 9/11 being Saudi nationals.

If the Houthis really want to get some attention they should attack Mecca.

The Egyptians tried and failed in the 1960’s to do that with 70,000 boots on the ground.

Saudis spend a lot on hardware, but seem to be unwilling to actually get their hands dirty in a fight.

Yup. When we were binging the shit out of Iran, the Saudi’s did everything they could to impede us. They refused to let us use their bases or flyover. Now they can suck it.

Zero details about the attack. Was it drones, rockets, ballistic missiles, artillery, mortar, ground assault, jet strikes?

because they want the US to take care of them instead of them taking care of their own problem. This is Saudi Arabia we are talking about here and they still have to answer for 9/11..its horrible that an American was killed why are Americans even in Saudi Arabia anyway?

Exactly, Saudi Arabia didnt want to get involved when the US was asking them for help against Iran, now they want Trump to help them against the Houthi’s, I dont think so

Growing a pair takes time. Leave them alone to sort it out. Lawrence of Arabia is gone so they need to get some spine.
