Michigan Democratic Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed described a pregnant mother as “simply a carrying vehicle for a fetus that has not ever breathed air.” The comment came when a pro-life student asked him, at a Western Michigan University town hall, why she should vote for him.
The exchange came at a “Students vs. Billionaires” event on the Kalamazoo campus. El-Sayed did not use the word “woman.” He called the pregnant mom “an adult, or sometimes even a juvenile human.”
“I respect your position insofar as it’s founded in the idea that you want to protect and empower life,” El-Sayed told the student. “The question we have to ask ourselves is, what’s the best way to do that? And whose life gets destroyed in that process?”
He continued: “Because too often when government says that you cannot have reproductive care, you are creating a circumstance in which an adult, or sometimes even a juvenile human, is being reduced into simply a carrying vehicle for a fetus that has not ever breathed air.”
He later said restricting abortion turns “the currently existing life of the mother” into “simply a carrying vehicle for a fetus.”
Kristan Hawkins, president of Students for Life of America, said the answer treats a preborn child as if the baby does not count until a first breath outside the womb.
“I’ve carried four babies. I was their mother long before any of them breathed air,” she said. “The Pro-Life Generation knows a preborn baby is still a baby.”
Hawkins said El-Sayed has pledged to repeal the Hyde Amendment, which bars federal taxpayer funding of most abortions, to defend government funding for Planned Parenthood, and to keep tax dollars from pregnancy resource centers, which he has called “fake clinics.”
When Planned Parenthood Action Fund endorsed him in August, she said, he praised “the tenacity and compassion of the folks at Planned Parenthood” and said he looked forward to partnering with them in the Senate.
El-Sayed and pro-life Republican Mike Rogers are set to debate Thursday in Grand Rapids.
Hawkins said Students for Life Action students plan to be outside, and that the group is targeting the Michigan Senate race ahead of the Nov. 3 election. She also pointed to a leaked Democratic playbook that, she said, puts abortions up to birth and repeal of the Hyde Amendment at the top of the list if Democrats take Congress, with a promise to act within the first 100 hours.

Islamic teachings generally prohibit abortion by default but el-sayed supports it in USA because we are “infidels” and his goal is to have the islamic population replace the natives gradually through demographics.
I thought Moslems were against abortion, at least for themselves.

Whether or not you approved or do NOT approve of a Muslim with dual citizenship running for office in the US, what you have here is another example of the US education system failing to teach people how to read and understand a sentence.
People here are arguing that the candidate was saying he considered women a carrying tool for babies. He did NOT say that. He clearly stated that when GOVERNMENT says you cannot have reproductive CARE it is the government that is treating women as “a carrying vehicle for a fetus.” I am reminded of my surprise when a friend told me her employer with a religious orientation was interfering with her right to obtain birth control through legal channels. My friend definitely wants to have children, but not at that particular time. What right did an employer have to interfere with her choice at that time?
Fortunately, I never had to make a choice about continuing a pregnancy. I had 2 boys and definitely hoped to have a girl next, but a serious long term health issue my husband suffered from would have made a third child economically very difficult. We chose to avoid pregnancy cooperatively by legal means. Unfortunately, many people do not think enough to be careful to avoid pregnancies they do not want or cannot deal with responsibly. Even more sadly there are people and groups in this and other countries that are working to make it very difficult even for responsible people to exercise their reproductive activity in a responsible way, Our government should not be doing things to either limit reproduction or promote it by coercive means. Think China’s “one child” policy, or Hitler’s program to breed the perfect Aryan.
I think most of the other mothers in this page will agree that some of the best times in their their lives were while they were pregnant..
