Furious residents of Minneapolis suburbs erupted at their political leaders for failing to address recent shootings involving Somalis.
The placid community of Edina, slightly more than 10 miles southeast of Minneapolis, has been shaken by a string of apparent gang shootings over the last few months.
On July 22, shots were fired at Yancey Park during a 'large gathering.' Another shooting followed on September 22 outside Our Lady of Grace Church while a community basketball game was being played. No one was hurt in either incident.
Angry locals demanded accountability for the shootings, which remain unsolved, on Monday night during a packed meeting at Edina City Hall.
'Semantics aside, we have a gang problem,' Jared Scribner, who said he had lived in Edina for 25 years, said. 'There's clearly a ... component from Somali youth as part of that, so call it what it is and deal with it.'
Edina police had stated that Somali teens and young adults 'have been the targets of - or have had some level of responsibility for' the shootings.
Scribner chastised city leaders for their response to the shooting at the park, demanding greater accountability.
'When gunfire happened at Yancey Park, the city's response was to talk about having a meeting with Somali community leaders, and mentioning a new soccer program,' he said. 'Really?'
Scribner blasted Edina mayor Jim Hovland for referring to the incidents as 'gun violence,' calling that characterization 'grossly misleading.'
'Doing so shifts responsibility away from those who are committing the crimes and avoids the questions of personal accountability and criminal behavior,' Scribner added.
He noted what Edina police had said about Somali youths being linked to the recent shootings.

“Bishop Harding Smith pushed back and said the shootings were ‘not a Somali problem,’ but rather a ‘youth problem.’”
The DSA way. They see things as they wish them to be, not as they are. Couple that with the good people of Minnesota voting DSA so they can prove that they are good people and the result is what you’re seeing here.
Quit being angry, you asked for it.
More ice please
Gee. What a coincidence. Gang problems with unassimilated people who do not see stealing from the government as a moral issue.
And trend, they want to apply the equivalent of “Midnight Basketball” to it.
THEY VOTED FOR THAT SHT.
DEAL WITH IT
MIDNIGHT SOCCER?
deport, deport, deport
Deport from me! I never knew you!

Yes, they indeed did vote for this. All but about 30% of them anyway.
U R funny.
Appears insensitive to the heritage of the Skinnies.
City leaders should develop a program of Pirate Games & Competition to keep the yute Skinnies preoccupied.
Who did the residents vote for?
Wow, you mean we could have solved decades of gang issues if we just had better community activities? Lol what a joke
“Who did the residents vote for?”
See post 9.
Talking to a former lewiston maine school official who was raving about how great the Somalis kids were at soccer and how they were winning championships.
Looking at him and realizing that he betrayed his western civ ancestry for a few games.
Would you say the same thing if you had moved from Minneapolis to Mogadishu instead of moving Mogadishu to Minneapolis?
According to l/e, authorities have tracked roughly a dozen organized Somali youth gangs across the Minneapolis-St. Paul metro area, St. Cloud, and surrounding suburbs.
Police and sheriffs have linked young Somali gang members to a string of recent shootings, gun violence, and homicides, incidents driven by social media, online notoriety and drug-trade motives.
Somali populations number over 100,000 in Minnesota. Delinquent youth violence and requires parental and community engagement.
Somali Financial Fraud
Charges against 78 Somalis were brought in connection with the massive “Feeding Our Future” COVID-era child-nutrition Somali fraud, which totals roughly $300 million stolen tax dollars.
A large number of the participants l/e charged in the scheme were Somalis “saying” they were US citizens.
The thieving Somalis usual practice is to collude: to flagrantly use their ethnicity to absolve themselves of crimes. But when the facts show the thieves are Somalis......they hypocritically cry “racism.”
More learing centers, please. How else can the Somali community make money when their expertise is defrauding government programs?
They are afraid of being called "racists."
As Trump said: "We halted all refugee admissions from Somalia ...They can't come in — we don't want Somalia here! You know, they have a 98% unemployment rate, but they're very good at ripping us off."
A good start, and unfortunately, I understand some of them are citizens now, but that should not stop getting these violent foreigners TH out of our country:
"The Trump administration is executing the largest denaturalization effort in modern history, seeking to revoke the citizenship of foreign-born Americans accused of fraud or serious crimes."
