Video posted by government forces in Yemen showed them driving armoured cars over Houthi fighters as they recaptured areas around the vital Bab el-Mandeb Strait from the Iran-backed group on Monday in a deadly new phase of the fragmented country's war.
The videos gave a glimpse into the brutal closing stages of a pitched battle for control of territory near the strait that the Houthis had captured last month. The Houthi advance sent shockwaves through the oil market and pushed up petrol and diesel prices worldwide.
Fighting continued near Bab el-Mandeb on Tuesday as Saudi-backed government forces battled to consolidate Monday's counter-attack, besieging Houthi fighters at a military camp near the strait and pushing into hills to the east, Yemeni military sources said.
The videos, verified by Reuters and filmed from inside the armoured vehicles, showed them striking fighters with their vehicles. Some were armed and some were walking or running. However, others were unarmed and some were sitting, lying or crouching on the sandy shore and made no move to evade the oncoming vehicle as they were run over.
At one point, a vehicle hits a man, running and unarmed, and another crouching on the ground. It then loops back to drive over two men, both with their hands up and unarmed. Shooting can be heard during the video and at one point the vehicle's windscreen is cracked by a gunshot.
A Houthi statement decried the videos as proof of war crimes, saying they showed "the true nature of the Saudi regime and the forces it has mobilised from extremist factions".
Asil al-Saqladi, spokesperson for the Giants Brigade — the main Yemeni government force involved in the fighting at Bab el-Mandeb this week — said the force was conducting an investigation into the incident.

How many points per Houthi ?
How is it a war crime to kill outlaw soldiers with a vehicle?
That should become a video game.
FAFO
I wouldn’t be surprised if the so-called “news” media calls for the UN to save the poor helpless Yemenis.
Sounds like a great idea for a video game.
Yahoo...... Verified by Reuters.
'were' or 'were not'? Was that a typo?
Houthis are supported by Iran. Yemeni government is supported by Saudi. The history of the Cold War-era North and South Yemen is a lesson in why communism is a bad thing. Readers should check it out.
Fool Around Find Out.
Indeed. Houthis aligned with commies and Iran for many, many, decades. They ended up tools, poor as dirt. Now they’re finding out.
No sympathy from me.
yeh- i’m wondering about a lot of the comments here...i rooting for the vehicles....they need to treat these animals like- well animals...
Yup...sorry...typo. *Weren’t* damaged.
Seems like a good way to conserve ammunition.
Not so groovy when the shoe is all of a sudden on the other foot, is it now Houthi-boy?
I like to watch active shooting cameras and the commentators show different aspects of how to (and how not to) handle things. Often they will show an officer running down a gunman with their vehicle. The element of surprise, not having to stop and get out of the car just gives the criminal time to set up a shot.
There was one where some crazed gunman is in the middle of the street at night shooting at homes and the officer that responded, who is behind his car trying to do the best he can. He had called for backup. On the parked squad car’s dash cam you hear the revving up of an engine off in the distance and then a blur as the responding officer hits the gunman at full throttle and takes out the threat.
When I was little and to this day, I would get out of the way when a vehicle drove towards me.
Houthis like all Islamic Muslim POS are very stupid..and inbred.
Their lucky they aren’t cannibals.
Neither side are nice people. Sometimes ya’ just have to go with the lesser evil, all things considered.
That said, in the article, the pro-gov’t spokesman describes what may have been a trap, baited with some “surrendering” Houthis. Definitely the pro-gov’t vehicle was still being shot at. Attempting to surrender to an armored vehicle your buddies are still shooting at could definitely go badly.
I thought so.
;)
I hope their vehicles were damaged.

They were ... all Hootie vehicles were total wreaks.
