John Spencer, an expert on urban warfare and Chair of Urban Warfare Studies at the Modern War Institute at West Point, sharply criticized the documentary NAZA on Monday, accusing it of presenting claims about the war in Gaza that go beyond even those made by Hamas.
“Worse than Hamas propaganda," Spencer wrote in a post on X after watching the documentary in its entirety. “Over three years, I’ve tried not to be surprised by ignorance, disinformation, and distortions relating to war, but this is at the top for many reasons."
Spencer said he intends to publish a detailed analysis of the documentary, but singled out one statement that appears prominently during the film: “Israel has killed more than 73,000 Palestinians in Gaza."
“Not even Hamas says this," Spencer wrote, arguing that the statement effectively attributes every death in Gaza since October 7 to Israel.
Spencer noted that Hamas itself has killed Gazans in efforts to maintain its control and that armed clashes have taken place between Hamas and anti-Hamas clans.
He also pointed to rockets fired by terrorist organizations from Gaza that fell short and landed inside the territory. According to Spencer, as many as 20% of the approximately 12,000 rockets fired by Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad at Israel fell inside Gaza.
Spencer further argued that recent Hamas reporting has included natural deaths on its lists, making it inaccurate, in his view, to attribute the entire reported death toll to Israeli military action.
“To say every person that died in Gaza was killed by Israel is a vulgar lie," he charged.
Spencer said the casualty claim was only one of numerous problems he found in the documentary.

You haven’t been paying attention. I’ve had numerous stories deep sixed by the mods because a story looks like it was posted earlier, on account of time zone differences. For the record, Jerusalem time is in the Greenwich minus two time zone, and the EST time zone is at Greenwich plus five, causing a story posted in New Jersey an hour after mine to appear to have been posted seven hours before. So I make sure that the exact time that I post is out there, so I no longer get the “search still works” notification. Except when I forget to do it.

I have a lot of respect for Spencer. I have been aware of his work for some time, including through my job for several years. He is someone to be listened to.
They’ll try to get him fired, and have demonstrations in front of the Point. I can see it now. Question is, will the Point go along with the a@@-holes, or stay true to their ideals.

According to Professor Kedar, their hostility to Israel is actually more deep-seated than that. They believed that Judaism was over, replaced by Islam, and all that remained of it was paying their jiziya and eating bagels. Founding a resurgent Jewish state is inimical to that belief, Doctor Kedar says. So they cannot tolerate it beyond the loss of territory. That would explain why they’re not so hot to trot to conquer Spain. On the other hand, I believe it says in Suras 17 and 5 that one day the Jews will return to their ancient homeland, so they should be just fine with the State of Israel.
